I find it very sad that Deckers who own Ugg have managed to copyright a name and have everyone believe that they are the genuine Ugg.

Ugg is an australian boot which dates back to 1920's, the name Ugg is part of Australian and new Zealand history and is a generic name for a sheepskin boot in that style.

Yes Ugg Australia is 'the' fashion label but Australians were using that name on their boots long before an american company got hold of it, they were just the ones to think of trademarking that name.

The trademark law in the UK does state that Ugg is no longer considered a generic term for these boots.

Are these boots just as good as UGGs? i've had my grey classic tall uggs 2 years now and they have been the most amazingly comfy boots i've ever worn but they are getting a bit worn out now. the soles are still perfect but the stitching on the front is starting to wear through. Been looking at these as i just dont have £170+ for a new pair of uggs at the mo. If these are just as good then i would rather get these as classic talls are £210 in very and dont want to pay the extra £135 if these are the same quality x
  • What's the size like? I already have a pair of "Ugg Australia" in UK 7.5 (or US9), should I go for the same size too?

The ops title is not wrong. Ugg is a style of boot. Yes, we all know the common Ugg Australia boots, the ones labelled 'UGG' but any boot of that style are actually Ugg boots.
It's a shame Ebay doesn't agree as Listings get pulled for putting UGG as a style....quite annoying!
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D

i've took a chance as i can always send them back if i dont like them. my ugg australia are a 7.5 and i have gone for a 7 in these. i've got the grey ones too. hope there similar to my others and not too light
  • I don't like to be pedantic... But Ugg is a registered brand in most of western Europe and in America.

Ugg is not a registered brand in Australia, which I guess is the ironic bit!!

either way, it is easy enough to spot the genuine Ugg to the fakey.

Celtic Sheepskin Celt boots are just as good.. actually they starting manufacturing them before UGG Australia.. and sold them the rights to use the name UGG. I've got a pair of the black classic boot and think they are fab! See here about the history of the story.. http://www.celtic-sheepskin.co.uk/about-us/our-history/ and http://www.celtic-sheepskin.co.uk/about-us/ugg-boots/ ... I highly recommend both the Classic boot and the bootie slippers! They are much cheaper than UGG Australia and the same quality or even better! They are handmade in Newquay, the same way UGG style boots (the generic term for this type of boot) has been made for many years in Cornwall.
