Being forced to train for something i dont want to do

The reason i am unhappy is it is a very physical job and i know i will struggle with it, you have to load all the empty rollers and boards onto the wagon as well as using a manual pallet truck and i dont think i will be able to pull the boards that have pop , beer etc
Being trained to do something isn't the same as being good at it.
There are some tasks that are technically part of my job that I'm terrible at. I'm trained to do them, so when the people who usually do them are sick/on holiday/overwhelmed with work I might have a go at helping them out. However, I work at less than half the speed they do, and our bosses know that having me do those tasks is seriously inefficient unless there isn't a choice.
You might find that your bosses make a similar choice, so you'll do one shift at moving the stuff and then never have to touch it again.0 -
I know what you mean it would take twice as long and probably do some damage to myself in the process. I was till trained and have not been on one for 8 years would not have a clue now. We are timed at work and they set how long they think it should take and if you dont do it in the set time it goes on your record and then its a warning. They dont care if you are not use to it.0

Where i work (check my sig) any heavy stuff eg pop, cereals etc are loaded onto pallets and the electric truck is used to unload from the wagon and store in the warehouse. The only physical work i can imagine is pulling cages where the wheels are f*cked so you use the electric truck to move it and pushing the empty cages(not really physical if all teh wheels on the cages work) onto the lift to go onto the wagon. I cant imagine they would have you working by yourself on the back door with no one else more experienced or someone to help you.0

The thing is you are talking about what you think you won't be able to to do. The whole point of training is to teach you how to do things so you can do it. If once you do it, your health and safety is affected, then you can go and say that you are concerned you are not able to accomplish your duties because of x, y or z. They would need to remedy the problem. For instance, you are trained how to use the lift. It might be that there is something that can be done so it is resolved immediately that you are not aware of, but will learn in training. If that is not the case, you are stuck in the lift for 4 hours, get a panic attack at a result, then they will have a duty to sort it out (in any case, that's probably a bad exemple as really, the lift should be repaired before!).
The company is much more likely to sympathise with your request not to take on a particular role if you have shown willingness to giving it a try.0 -

Do the training. If you are physically unable to do this task, it will show up then, and you will not pass the training. If you are, then you will have to do it.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
