‘Poetry in Motion’

‘Pub Poetry’ with the Dorothy Miles Cultural Centre

Following the success of our signed poetry event at the Guildford Book Festival last year, we have received lots of enquiries about more signed poetry events.

We are delighted to announce that we will be holding six ‘Pub Poetry’ evenings which we are calling ‘Poetry in Motion’ starting at the end of January 2007 on the last Tuesday of each month.

These events have been made possible as a result of funding from Arts Partnership Surrey.

Each event will be led by a professional sign language poet who will perform some of their own poetry and will be encouraging everyone to have a go at signing their own poems.

The poets for each month are:

January – Richard Carter
February – John Wilson
March – to be advised
April –Penny Beschizza
May – Josephine Dickinson
June – to be advised

These are participatory events, so we hope everyone who would like to will join in.

If you have a favourite poem that you would like to share with us please come along.

Perhaps you have a poem that you don’t know how to sign – we can help you to turn it into signed poetry.

It’s a great opportunity to meet others with the same passion for signed poetry.

DMCC is all about bringing Deaf and hearing people together so everyone is welcome.

Of course the whole idea of the evening is to have fun and to meet new and old friends and at both our venues there is a paid bar so you can enjoy a drink at the same time!

The evenings are free but a voluntary donation of £2 is suggested.

An interpreter will be provided for introductions and to voice over if necessary.

The dates are as follows:

Tuesday 30th January - Godalming
Tuesday 27th February - Farnham
Tuesday 27th March - Farnham
Tuesday 24th April - Godalming
Tuesday 29th May – Farnham
Tuesday 26th June – Godalming

All the evenings start at 7.30pm and finish at 10.30pm

5-10 minutes walk from Godalming Station. By road easily accessible off
the A3 south of Guildford or via the Portsmouth Road from Guildford to
Godalming.

Farnham
Surrey GU9 7QR

10 minutes walk from Farnham Station. By road just off the A31 south of
Guildford.
