"Strawberries in the Snow"

Hey,
I'm hoping for some help. I'm making "Strawberries in the Snow" today and I need to let my strawberries marinate in brandy and sugar for an hour before making it.
Unfortunately I forgot to buy the brandy! Will it be okay without? All I have in is tequila and brut and I doubt they'd do the job. I'm a bit clueless really and just trying to follow a recipe
