Is There a Dentist In The House?

Hello,
Upon filling in my SOA / cccs debt remedy form i became stuck on the Optician/Dentist line....
I know what my eyes cost...... but....
I need A LOT of work done to my mouth.
I've read the new NHS dentist costs rules thing and also that it's pretty unworkable in as much as any sane dentist would not put 6 crowns and root fillings plus about 4 - 6 amalgam fillings, plus x-rays etc all into ONE treatment course for £189

So, in the REAL world.... going on NHS treatment alone...
What WOULD ( this is obviously an approximation )
6 Root Fillings
6 Porcelain/Ceramic Crowns ( front upper teeth ) on amalgam/metal posts
6 amalgam fillings ( back teeth )
all req'd X-Rays etc..

Cost?

I'm not able to go to a dentist to get a treatment plan or costng as there ARE NO DENTISTS TAKING ANYONE IN A 70+ mile radius from my home.

I wondered how many treatment courses ( £189's ) this considerable amount of work would break down into hypothetically give or take a course?

As you've guessed, I need a rough figure as I need to fill in my form and just because current dental expendature is NIL does not mean my dental outlay WILL be NIL this coming year.
I have to account for it when weighing up income/outgoings to see what ( if anything ) is left for creditors.

PLEASE HELP.!!! Thanks.

:D <- wow wish my teeth where that nice.

p.s. ONLY dentists need reply. Thanks.

Yes, there is a dentist who posts on the boards, and I am currently racking my brains to try and remember their posting name.

I will have a hunt and see if I can come up with a name.

The posts that I have read belonging to the dentist were most helpful. :D

    Ouch!

I'm not a dentist but the last time I went (a couple of weeks ago) I checked with my dentist about the costing. As long as the treatment is all detailed at the same time, then it's all within the one cost (depending on the most expensive treatment). I'm in Wales, so this might make a difference.

Hopefully somebody with more knowledge will be along soon.

I noticed a poster in my dentists the other day, and it seemed to be saying the £189 covered whatever needed doing, even if you needed multiple visits to the dentist - not sure though.

That sounds like the fellow, I tried to look on the member list, but a message appeared that it had been disabled.

  • Fillings, even root ones all come under the £42.40 price bracket, but the nhs does not provide tooth coloured ones. My husband had root canal work done last week and it took 3 trips and it just cost him £42.40, also if he needs anymore in the next 3 (i think) months then it is covered by the charge and he doesn't have to pay again.

If you can't find an NHS dentist in your area, telephone your Primary Care Trust to see if they have a waiting list for the region, (I'd speak to the Patient Advice and Liaison team (PALS)

If you are taken on by an NHS dentist, all work required would be carried out for one of the above charges.
It would be clinically negligent not to do so.
The hard bit is finding an NHS practice who are accepting new patients.
The golden rule....when you find one DO NOT MISS ANY APPOINTMENTS! Practices are very strict about this as it is now illegal to charge a fine for a missed appointment under NHS regulations (Private practices may still charge)

It's within 2 months babe... unless he requires treatment that was:
    A) In a higher pay band
    B) The treatment was not completed
    C) The restoration was temporary

  • WoW thanks Linda X
Having read stuff all over the net, I was under the impression a dentist ( if I could actually find one ) would split all the work up into seperate treatment courses over a number of months becuase of the points system and what the dentist would or would not ( in my case ) be getting for all his effort and time.
It seemed far more logical ( from the dentists point of view ) to divide the work into seperate courses so as to get more points.

It does seem very odd that anyone would accept all that work for less points than splitting it into sperate course, say maybe 2 crowns per course?

I'm worried that If I just put down £189 ( divided by 12 ) for my in/exp form I might be cutting my own throat if and/or when it turns out it'll be alot more as my expendable income ( to share out ) will aready have been decided on the £189 figure ( or there abouts )

    eeeek
