Why are only some films given free tickets for and not others? how is it chosen?

It's really down to the film distributers on what gets a free preview or not.

All that SeeFilm First are (and for that matter The Times), is conduit to allow the distributers to dosh out tickets to a certain demigraphic of person to get people to talk about the film they have seen to other people.

They hope by 'Chinese Whispers' the word will get about so more people will go and see it. I suppose it's the cinema version of viral advertising.;)

As for which chain of cinema shows the free preview, it's all really up to the marking departments of both the film disributer and the cinema chain conserned.

Don't think it was that good ....

.. quite enjoyed it and still give it 7/10 although there were a few rather slow sections and overall the film was probably 15-20 minutes too long, but not bad and a little reminder of part of our history.

Well I saw The Dark is Rising, and thought it was awfull. Thank goodness it was free, otherwise I would have felt VERY disappointed.
If you haven't seen it already (free) I would think twice before spending money - should think it will be out on dvd soon.
I would think Christopher Eccleston and Ian McShane will want to forget this one asap.
Just my personal opinion of course, but screening nearly empty, and didn't think other viewers thought much of it either.
I actually feel tempted to read the book, because I cannot believe it could possibly be as bad as the film. If it hadn't been so loud I would have fallen asleep.

I am really looking forward to Elizabeth - although the codes have been out for weeks, I only managed to get some for my cinema recently.

    Free tickets for The Lookout?
That's fantastic if its as good as Gordon-Levitt's phenomenal Brick
Mathew Goode is apparently sublime - with this performance Zack Snyder had no hesitation casting him ahead of Jude Law in the mega budget Watchmen, so I've heard.
Anyone else here seen Brick/read Watchmen??

Just got back from a free preview screening of DEATH AT A FUNERAL. Just 17 of us in the 200 seat cinema.

9 out of 10 for this very funny black comedy - definitely recommend seeing this - BUT DON'T TAKE A DRINK - you're likely to spit it out over the person in front of you if slurping at the wrong moment.
