8 GB SDHC - will it work in all cameras?

I have been looking at 8GB SDHC cards on ebay. I am tempted by the large storage capacity of these cards but have noticed that they are called 'SDHC' and not just 'SD'.
Are these cards compatible in all cameras? Or only some? If so, which ones?
I have a Canon S3 IS.

Can't directly answer that but would suggest its better to have 2 x 4gb cards than 1 x 8gb. Cards can get damaged/corrupt and if you put it all on 1 card...0

Use caution!!! I'm not saying all memory cards on ebay are fake, but a lot of them are. I have bought two myself and both turned out to be fake. My friends checked theirs from ebay and again fakes.
They did both work but are not covered my any warranty.

my guess would be not.
I know alot of cameras stil struggle to handle 2gb cards, i also know some cameras you can upgrade the firmware which allows larger capacity but i would proceed with caution. Your manual should say if not contact the manufacturer.0 -

It's hard to say. According to Canon, the S3IS only supports cards upto 2GB. However the S3 IS does support FAT32, and the Transcend 4GB SD 150X card is reported to work well with it, although it doesn't work in many other cameras and card readers. People have also managed to use class 2 8GB SDHC cards once they have been low level formated by the camera.0 -
What is SDHC?
SD High Capacity (SDHCTM) card is the new SD™ memory card based on the SDA 2.00 specification, introduced by the SD Card Association.
This new SDA 2.00 specification enables SD cards to reach higher capacities - 4GB-32GB*.
Because SDHC works differently then standard SD cards, this new format is not backwards compatible with legacy SD format host devices.
More SDHC compatible devices are expected to be available in the second half of 2006. To ensure compatibility, look for the SDHC logo on cards and host devices (cameras, camcorders, etc.)
