Anything Else I can Try?

I'm having to give up my part-time job due to childcare problems, but I still need to try and bring in some money each month. I currently earn just under £300 pounds, so that's my target. We're not eligible for any benefits (other than child benefit) and we can't cut back more than we already are. My husband's work hours aren't always very regular, so it's difficult for me to commit to a job as we don't have short-notice childcare.

So far I've tried:
Several party-plan/catalogue drop companies, none of which really worked, so I don't want to try that again.
Ebay - selling bits and pieces from the house, very hit and miss but will keep at it.
Surveys - brings in a bit of pocket money, worth keeping on.
Mystery shopping - not worth it after transport costs.
Own business - brings in a few pounds (yes, I'm declaring to HMRC and earning enough to pay any tax!), but no idea how to get it properly off the ground.
Blogging - I do have one, but it's more of a personal one and I don't really want to commercialise it.
Childminding - was suggested, but definitely not for me!

Researched:
Matched betting - a bit over my head and don't really have the start up.
Odesk etc - way over my head.
Teletech - hours no good, even if I passed the interview.
Lionbridge - been rejected twice, so I think that's out.

I'm sure there must be something else (legal) I can do, but I'm not sure what!

    hi Liz,

maybe a visit to your local NWES or similar group could offer you some advice adn possibly a grant to help you business get off the ground?
A bit unorthodox and MAY not bring any rewards - but have you visited the competitions board on here? I have been doing for about 3 years now, I am very structured with it and spend 2-5 hours a day (yes there are more than enough comps for this!) Its very flexible as can fit around your arrangements, the rewards can be big, small or none at all, BUT it is a great hobby and if you enter enough odds adn a bit of luck say you should start to win regulary. It brings a lot of hope and joy into my and my families life, as you never know what the posty may bring, or what a phonecall migth say or what a email will bring. You can enjoy the wins, or perhaps sell ones that are of no use to you or yours. If you would like any further info pm me or take a peek across to teh comps board.

    Best of luck

Maybe ironing at home, theres a good ironing thread on here. Fits well with odd hubbie hours and kids. Its what i do as i'm the same childcare issues and hubbie hasn't got a set 9 to 5 job so we can't plan very easily.

Go over to sureboom forum and have a nosey if thers anything to suit. Other opportunities thread has some work at home stuff. :)

I used to work nights as a bank nurse assistant on a mental health ward, decent money as well and they were all asleep. :D

I do direct selling with Scentsy and love it, and I find the rewards excellent, and it's so new in the UK the market is not saturated. There are also surveys, I used to do all of them, but got fed up with being kicked out right at the end after spending 20mins or so working on them. Now I only do a couple of the better ones who don't tend to kick you out on a whim and the ones were you scan your shopping and input weekly purchases. You can make money though if you have the time to put into doing them, most rewards tend to be gift vouchers though not cash. Also, getting to know the ebay market, checking out charity shops/boot sales ect and getting things that you think you will be able to sell on for a profit. You can also sign up to the product testing sites, you don't make money doing this, but I can't remember the last time I needed to buy a moisturiser/eye cream ect cause I get them from doing the product testing. There is a great ironing thread on here as well that I was reading through the other day. People seem to do quite well with that. Good Luck x
