buying veg in Inverness area
Hello. This is a bit of a specific request but I know there are a few others from my area that post here!
I'd like to stop buying veg from the supermarkets. As far as I know there aren't any farm shops or anything around here? Also anyone know where I can get eggs, pref organic? I know there used to be a farmers market but saturdays are difficult for me and I'm not sure it still runs? What does everyone else do? (what I'd really like is my own chickens but I'm not allowed).

There is farm shop on the outskirts of Beauly on the way to Muir of Ord, and they have lots of chickens pecking about in fields at side of road so I'm sure you would get organic eggs thereTitch

I'm reliably informed that there is a big veg shop somewhere along the Longman-havent found it yet myself, but it will be a decent alternative to supermarkets in the area.0

How about checking for Farmer's Markets in the area? Check out the Scottish Farmers Market sites for dates.0

Could be I think its called Swansons they are a wholesalers that also sell from their warehouse I think. It's in Lotland Street, leave town centre and head for Harbour, straight through traffic lights at harbour, turn right after Citadel bar, follow road round and its on your left.Titch

Thanks for those ideas! I knew there had to be something around somewhere. I'll be investigating and hopefully finding some decent tasting veg that isn't covered in packaging.0

The saturday market(opposite asda) in elgin (36 miles away form you) has load of choice from local farmers, all really fresh!!
Also you can stock up at asda for everything else while you are there! It is generally cheaper than tesco, and they will match any offer from any shop!
happy eatingThat mrs macchicken to you!0 -
Found some lovely eggs sort of near Culbokie, organic free range £1.80 for 12, (I was paying £1.50 for 6 in Tesco). Also went to the Beauly farm shop but it wasn't that brill: quite touristy really, although they did have cheap free range eggs. Going to try the Ardersier shop next time I'm that way0

I'd take to the backroads
theres usually signs up for free range eggs
I'll be out again on the road next week and report.
Theres a happy henery on the road between tain and Portmahomack.
Swansons as far as I know just buy from the fruit market in Glasgow.
Tio are a group of farms that do organic, closest one is to the right of the closed junction for the airport on the A96 heading for Croy.
usually carrots n tatties.
No chemicals as they burn the stubble away.
Thanks

Isn't there a place out at Ardersier that delivers organic goods for £9 I think for any amount, deliver on Fridays. Meat, eggs, fruit, veg etc etc. MacLeod Organics, Kylerona Farm, telephone 01667 462555
I've been looking for a place that sells local fruit and veg, not supermarkets all the time. Organic would be good but can't afford it all the time. Did pick up a bargain the other day at Morrisons though, five bags of organic carrots for 9p a bag, used them for carrot juice, it was so much sweeter and tastier than with the usual Tesco value carrots I use, no bitter taste, really good.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot.
