broker help

Options
Hi ppl
Me and the partner applied for a mortgage through a broker who is realy not very helpful. My valuation been done but no offer and been nearly 2 months. Spoke to broker and was told there is some problem with the solicitor we was using which was recommend by the broker. The solicitor is being investigated for money laundering and this is delaying the mortgage applicating. Halifax are reviewing all application using this solicitor. I have nothing to hide which is a good thing. But I can't get a straight answer from my broker on what stage Halifax are on. Questiong is can I contact Halifax direct and get an update. I don't want to lose the house. The vender has been patient. Any help would be great

I'm not a broker but 2 months looks over the top by some fair way to me. I personally would certainly go to the horse's mouth and explain that this is endangering your purchase. See what they say. I don't see what you can lose.
  • Thanks for the reply. It is over the top. The application was sent in 1st Aug and valuation was done 18th Aug with no problems. I think I'm gna call Halifax becasue it is endangering the purchase.
  • I just spoke to Halifax and they have given me anupdate. They are still waiting for the paper work from the solicitor which the solicitor confirms have been sent and also the broker has put my partner as Mrs but het title is miss. Halifax have contacted the broker regarding this. Don't understand why he did that beacuse all the paper for my partner states miss. Should this be a problem?

Can't see why. It's their processing error and nothing to do with you.

Sounds like your solicitor is an idiot at best and dodgy at worst. Perhaps get a new one and advise Halifax to send revised paperwork out to them? If you have already paid out for searches and such, the existing solicitor should be able to transfer these all over to the new one.

You got that right. Can I change me solicitor? Would that not cause more problems and delay the process further? I've waiting long enough as it is. Spoke to the EA about it all and explained wasn't my fault. She understand and has explained to the vender the situation and vender is ok to wait.

You can change your solicitor if you want to. Might be an idea just to threaten your existing one with this prospect to get him to actually do something.

Yeh I think going to threaten them with that so it gives a kick up the backside.
