problem charging laptop

Any ideas?:(

Presumably the computer runs OK when plugged into the adaper and it's just the battery charging circuit that is faulty. If you have no warranty cover on it, you're probably stuck with the problem. You could probably send it back to Samsung for repair, but it may well be cheaper to buy a new one.

Thanks for reply victor2. Unfortunately the computer does not run at all.It is completely dead.Waddle you do eh?0

As it doesn't run at all, it could be as "simple" as a failed connection from where the power adapter plugs in to the motherboard. That in theory often can be re-soldered and repaired, but not something I would like to try. Maybe a computer repair shop could have a look at it for a reasonable fee, especially as you've got nothing to lose if the computer is dead anyway.

thanks again victor2. I'll give that a try - hopefully it'll work, but definitely cheaper than a new one.Waddle you do eh?0

depending on where you are in the country, power jack replacement should cost between £35 and £80-odd quid..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

This happened to me with my laptop - it would charge when I put pressure against it then eventually the small pin snapped in charger - had to pay £80 for new one to be soldered - had too many pics I didn't want to lose and a new one wasn't an option either..
I dropped my laptop on its side though and it landed on the jack thingy which just didn't help - has this just happened OP? or did you have an accidental situation?0 -
Hi LMCD. Did not happen accidentally but over a period of time. Perhaps it would be better to put the £80 towards a new machine afterall. thanks to all who replied.Waddle you do eh?0

I might be able to help short term..
Just to fill you in I'm an electronic engineer and i've had a laptop that did the same.
from what u've described i'm 99% sure the previous poster is correct, it is a bad connection somewhere.
now the MOST likely reason ( in my experience) is the connector bending back, resulting in the thing not connecting properly. It is hard to describe without a picture, but the socket has a pin up the middle and a connector on the side it will probably be the side connector that has bent over. if you look at the laptop you should see the little metal strip bent down slightly inside the charger hole. Take a needle ( needle is better than pin) and see if you can gently and carefully prise the metal strip up slightly (battery disconnected for safety reasons). this might just get you a contact that will start the laptop and allow you to get data off it.
long term its new connector time. The parts will be a couple of £ the labour associated will be lots more.
Where abouts in the world are you btw, might know a decent repairer if you are near me..0 -
+1 for Podcakes suggestion, especially if the plastic inside the socket on the laptop is yellow.0
-
thanks podcake & Hammyman for suggestions. i have checked the things that you mentioned. First - no yellow plastic anywhere.
second - charging jack has metal pin in centre, (this is straight - not bent at all) and it locates into a small bore plastic fitting in laptop. This is still in centre of locating hole - but the hole in it's centre looks like it has been "stretched". As podcake said - it is difficult to describe without a drawing. Have been playing around with it again tonight and can't get it to go.
Am located in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire.
thanks again guys for taking the trouble to reply :beer:Waddle you do eh?0
