CV and letter help

On my quest to become debt free I have so far managed to secure 2 guarateed retention bonuses (1 this jan and 1 next jan) on top of my normal variable bonus payment in March.

A new managers role has just been announced at work for the team I work on and I would like to apply as it would give me more monthly money and more bonus as well as me feeling I have the necessary skills and experience. I have 2 problems applying, firstly my cv is awful and I have no clue where to start making it look better and what details to add in drop and 2, how to write a covering application letter. I have looked in the library but the books confused me even more and seemed quite dated. I am prepared to pay if I have to for omeone to do it professionallybut was wondering whether anyone had any good advice before I shell out money that could be clearing more debts?

If no-one has, anyone recommend a good cv writing company?:D

Ooooh, don't pay anyone to do this for you! No one knows you better than you! I'm happy to look over your CV for you - I worked for a Recruitment AGency for a couple of years before getting into what I do now.

Rules - Keep CV to no more than 2 sides of paper. Use bullet points. Sell yourself. With regards to the covering letter, be a little more personal and explain who you are, what you do and why you'd be good at what you're applying for.

Sure other more knowledgable sorts will be here momentarily, but if you need anything drop me a msg x
  • Get a copy of the person and job specifications from the HR departmentand make sure that you cover as many of the points in them as possible in your CV. Devote as much space to this as possible as this is what they are likely to decide to interview on, minimising the information about your history which is interesting but not specifically asked for.

If you want to PM me a copy of the CV you have I'd be happy to give it a look over for you and see what I suggest.

If you have Microsoft Word, File, New, Other Documents, Resume Wizard, may help.
  • I agree with Katrina. try and relate your experience as much as possible to the job description and person spec. I work in HR and would be happy to help you with your CV if you need any advice.

But DON'T pay anyone to do it!
