fleece & tog ratings

Help please! I am about to make a sleep "grow bag" for a baby. Nowadays, "tog" ratings are vital to prevent over-heating; however, fleece is sold by weight (grams per square metre). My usual source cannot quote me a tog rating - I have emailed another, but they haven't replied.
I cannot believe that we can't work this out, to make a suit at a fraction of the price!
Can anyone help?
I hope you don't mind, but I have cross-posted this on "families" as people who know about babies gather there.
Thank you so much.

The tog rating isn't that relevant though, surely? There are a lot of different factors involved whether a baby is starting to overheat...is it a heated room, how many layers is the baby wearing, are they chubby and well fed or very thin, sick or well etc etc etc. It's not a mathematical formula. Rule of thumb is one layer more than you and then feel down the back of their neck to see how warm they are.Val.0

I know, valk_scot. Unfortunately, the point is that buying an expensive bag gives one a formal tog rating. It is a gift, so don't want to make something that won't be used by inexperienced parents.0

Unfortunately the tog rating is worked out by the thermal resistance of the materials used and not by thickness or weight.
If you read this, it will explain.

Sproggi, please can I have the link I think you intended to post?
Your signature is very amusing but not helpful with tog ratings!0 -
Just click on the word 'this' that is in blue on my last post, it is the link

Thank you Sproggi, for kindness to someone who can't distinguish black from blue at this time in the evening0

No problem jackyann, I should not assume that everyone knows what a hyperlink is.
I did also notice that, near the bottom of the page in that link, there was an article on baby sleep bags, I am not sure, but it may be of help to you.
