Hey,
The background of this situation is my now husband had bought the house we live in and added his ex partner onto the mortgage, they ended the relationship not long after, several months later me and my husband got together and put the house on the market but it wasnt selling so we moved in and I gave up the flat that I rented and looked into taking the ex off the mortgage and adding me on, my husband bought his ex out with cash and has signed proof of this but when it came to changing names it wasnt so easy...
We have been to see halifax several times and each time we are having problems, we have lived in the house and jointly paid the mortgage and bill every month for the past 2 1/2 years, we married in April. When we speak to halifax about changing the names we are told we cant because it is in effect starting a new mortgage and we cant get one. We are both self employed which seems to go against us and my husband had no credit due to not having any credit cards or loans so we were told to take out a credit card in his name and use it so we have, now we dont know where to turn, halifax arent any help at all, I cant see why there is a problem after all we are paying the mortgage every month its just a change of name, someone please help!

Not merely a change of name. Its a new mortgage application as far as the Halifax are concerned.
Possible that you no do meet their current lending criteria.
Suggest you contact a local broker to explore your possible mortgage options.0 -
Thank you for your reply, where do we start?
I have no idea of where to turn and what to ask, we have spoken to a financal advisor and havent got anywhere, are we going down the wrong road?0 -
It's a complete change of ownership of the property. Not simply crossing out a name and writing another one in.
How long have you been self employed?
How many years accounts are there?
What are the net profit figures for the most recent year?
How much is owed on the mortgage?
What value is the property?
Does the other party agree to making the change of ownership?0 -
Ok who do I take this info to? Other than Halifax should we be seeking advise else where?
We have both been s/e for over 5 years, and have accounts, halifax has seen our accounts also.0
