I having been researching my family tree for a few years. To start me off, I used this one:

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&region=EUROPE

It is free and they show the 1881 census in full which costs nothing. Genes Reunited helped me a lot, I think it's £10 a year, but I wouldn't join until you have built up a part of your tree first. When you have gathered sufficient information, you can join Ancestry.co.uk for one month's free trial.

just an update of glitches i know you are aware of. today i go 2 packs of 24 birds eye fish fingers. they were on a low price of £1.25 each. i used two 75p coupons (which they checked). so got them for 50p each. this was in a metro as my extra had them for £2.50.
then off to a express and got sweet chillie sensations half priced at 90p. no sign of a b1g1f tried 2 packs and the offer kicked in so got eack pack for 45p. good price as they are normally £1.78, went back in and got another 8 packs.
oh P.S. the fish fingers had an offer on them for a free polar bear toy for six tokens + £1 for p&p good offer if you get the fingers for 50p per pack as i did. the offer ends in june 2012
so ill be printing another 4 coupons tonight as it states on coupon 1 per purchase.

Caz 2703 must say hun that you are handling your situation remarkably well. Think I would not have been able to keep my cool like you are. I was in a situation not too different and it was hell xx

    Thanks hon xx

I won't say it's easy but at the end of the day, dealing with the 2 kids alone is easier now I'm not constantly angry and wound up from external factors I had no control over. I'm shattered though as for the last 2 weeks either one of both the kids has been sick and now I'm hopefully coming to the end of the flu but my folks live miles away and I've no friends I can call on to help.

And speaking of mums and food parcels, my wonderful parents have me & the kids up for a big Sunday roast each week. I even get sent home with enough for a dinner for me & DS1 the next day as well so I only need to do dinners for 5 days week. God I love my parents. After all that the last year has brought, it's made us even closer if that were possible. Last Xmas we could have lost my dad to a heart attack had mum not phoned the docs in time and now this Xmas it'll just be me & the boys and my folks.

It's sad that my marriage has failed and I won't deny that I'm upset and still cry over it but in time I'll realise I'm happier and less stressed and things would never have changed for the better. Just a shame me & the boys are now a statistic. To think I used to look at other couples and feel sorry for them that they never looked happy, or how I'd see an old couple in the street and think that would be us some day yet our marriage didn't even last long enough to see in DS1s second birthday. It's hard to accept that even though you want to fight to save your marriage, it takes 2 and when the other party is unwilling to do anything to really fix things it makes me feel like I'm hitting my head against a wall. I never wanted to be a single mum but then it's better than being a doormat.

So anyway, what have I missed today? Folks were down so I could fix their laptop and I'm still hoping to get to my new Extra on Saturday so I'd be grateful for any top tips :D

Sorry just realised how much I've waffled :o

    FreeBMD is free to search:

    http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

I subscribe to Ancestry which I find really good, especially if you have ancestors from London (most of the London Parish Registers are photographed which means no sending off for Certificates).

There is a Clubcard deal for Family Tree Maker http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=1941 which includes 6 months free membership to Ancestry which is a really good deal, but looks like it is unavailable at the moment as the new version is coming out soon.

In the meantime, try your local library. Ours offer free internet access (1 or 2 hours I think) and have a group subscription to Ancestry which is free to use. It's not as good as having your own as once you start putting your information in you get leads to look into, but it will at least give you an idea if you will enjoy the hobby.

You could also check out http://www.ffhs.org.uk/members2/contacting.php for your local Family History Society. Members can usually use their computers and software and there will be people there who can help you make a start.

    HTH :)

Caz, I'm on my second marriage and I remember feeling a total failure that I couldnt make my first marriage work, but do you know what? It takes a stronger person to walk away and admit their is a problem than to stay in an unhappy marriage. Give it a while and you will gradually day by day feel stronger and as someone said before "What doesnt kill you only makes you stronger" which is my favourite saying. You've probably been ill because you're so run down, these things all take their toll:( But you'll get their eventually I promise:)
Anyway how can you not, you've got us lot;)
    Beware!!!! Glitching is addictive:rotfl:

Have to agree with you, once you have a few certificates & gathered all the facts together a one month Ancestry trial should be plenty to be going on with. Family search is good for Parish Register info but always check the original sources not just transcripts. Its so much easier with technology than it was when I started & you used to have to travel around the country & take days off work because nothing was indexed

I know this is off topic, but if anyone is looking for a nice cheap chistmas dress, i bought this one today from Asda and it's really nice. I'm a size 14 but bought it in a size 12. The 1 review that it has says to get a size smaller.
