Halifax Overdraft

Hi there,
I hope this is the right place to post...
Me and my partner have a joint bank account with Halifax and they gave us an overdraft of £1000 which we sillily got ourselves into. Anyway we have been paying it off and still owe £500 but I have a real gripe and I wonder if anyone can help, when we started paying it off £200 a month I asked if we could cut it by the £200 a month but they said no... Is this right? They said it can only be cut to £200 and we don't have £300 available right away. It feels like they want to keep us in debt

I don't have any answers, just to say I also have an overdraft with them for £850 and finding it very expensive as they are charging me £1.00 a day. I'm thinking of having my salary paid into a different account, so the overdraft is separate. I would have to transfer my direct debits to the new a/c, then I could gradually pay back the overdraft.
Has anyone else tried this and has it worked??:money:£10 a day extra in May '18[B]£35/310[

I am with nationwide and get charged pennies when I use mine (which over the last couple of months has been lots and there is no daily charge either...
I moved from Halifax years ago after being a victim of fraud and they took 7 months to get my money back into my account!!!
Never had a problem with Nationwide.
I would advise moving your bank account to somewhere else and then paying back what you can afford each month. It gives you a level playing field to start from again.0 -

I did this and it did work, I moved my current account to nationwide. When there was a 0% offer on my halifax c card i did a balance tfr (as they now do it to current accounts) and so i managed to stop the £1 a day chargesSantander 0% £1,529.94

I'm confused, how are they keeping you in debt? If you go into a branch and ask for a reduction/appeal the decision they'll probably reduce it then, but even so, just because you have an overdraft doesn't mean you have to use it, you just need to be more responsible!B.A - Shut up fool!0
