troubled_buyer wrote:Hi,
I'm sat in front of my new 17" computer monitor and TV thanks to Tesco.
Noticed it was £189.99 reduced to £159.99 on a yellow SEL so thought I'd try a price check, took it to the pharmacy counter where she scanned it at £229.99 (yes, that much - I asked her to check it again).
Took DVD case to checkout and paid with a little shopping my OH had collected. Then to CS who got the monitor collected and brought to the desk. She noticed the error and offered the difference to which my OH asked what the policy was (thank you to her) and within 10 minutes had this very bright monitor out the door with £229.99 refunded.
It is the Samsung Syncmaster 741MP, 17" monitor with TV tuner, scart input and S-video. It is amazingly bright...
My OH has pointed out that the DVD case scanned incorrect but the actual product box scanned correct at £159.99.
Went to one store today, picked up the case, took it to the CS desk to pay (I know... stupid) and she said "We'll just check we have it in stock before I scan it". 1 minute later she scans BOX which comes up at 159. I gave her my credit card with no limit left (he he) and of course it didn't go through.
So went to another store at 23:50hrs and got the DVD box, went to normal checkout who scanned it - £229.97 !!!!YES MY SON!!!! Customer Services went to get the product and clever man noticed that the bar codes were different. Scanning the box shows it was £159.97. "Not sure if this is the same as this comes up as a different price" he said. So you have overcharged me? I asked. Manager called in. He said that there was a problem with the bar codes and he would refund my £229 and sell it to me for £159. I said, but you have overcharged me. He replied that they had not as it did have £229 on the SEL, and that is what I paid.
I argued that if I had bought this when the electrical desk was open, they would have scanned the box and I would have been charged £159.
He was having none of it, so I said I was too tired and would come back in tomorrow to sort it out. Can I go to a different store for the overcharge or does it have to be the same store? Also if they have a different barcode on the dvd case but the price charged is the same as the SEL, is it an overcharge?

IMHO if the SEL was £229 and they charged you £229 then it's not an overcharge (the fact the bar code on the box itself scanned at less simply means that had you taken the boxed item to a till operator and scanned that you would have got it for LESS than the SEL - which as we all know means no R&R). If they advertised ANYWHERE (eg on the DVD box, the SEL, Poster around the store etc) that it was £159 then you have an overcharge. At the moment I think the manager is being generous in offering you this item for £159.Garty wrote:Went to one store today, picked up the case, took it to the CS desk to pay (I know... stupid) and she said "We'll just check we have it in stock before I scan it". 1 minute later she scans BOX which comes up at 159. But perhaps others think differently

The previous poster (troubled buyer) was onto a winner because there was a yellow SEL with a price lower than that which this item scanned at. Hope this all makes sense...it is 3.22am and I should be in bed:rotfl: so perhaps the thought processes aren't what they should be0
