in Cutting tax
I have a lodger staying in my house. If I say she is a partner of mine is it cheaper for community tax?

No.
Relationship status has no bearing on the amount of council tax due.0 -
Community charge was what became to be called Poll Tax by everyone, including Margaret Thatcher.
It caused riots, just as it had in 1381, so it became partly a tax on the individual and mainly a "wealth" tax on the value of the property occupied and called Council Tax.0 -
If you are claiming single occupancy discount, you will lose that no matter what status you put your lodger as.0

No -but if you state she is your partner then she becomes jointly liable for any council tax due.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
