Tell them you are thinking about part time study and want a copy of what you have for the application. Ask HR, not the boss.

Agree with the study element because previous quals can have a major impact on what courses you can study both in terms of proving you have the pre-requisites but also that you may qualify for funding.
  • If you tell them in advance of finding another job they can start to make things rather difficult for you.

    I wouldn't tell them anything.

I'd have thought normal people would start "conversing", or "speaking", even :D

"Normal people"? I think you meant "many", "some", etc. or "normally" What you said suggests that the OP is not a normal person.

Yes, well done...and then I put a great big smiley face after it to show that it was a joke...

I would discreetly ask HR for details of my training, under the guise on wanting to undertake further training or something similar. I would then look for a new position and only advise them I was leaving when I had secured a new job. They have no need to know until that point and you gain nothing by telling them along with being overlooked for any opportunities that may arise as they think you are likely to be leaving! Always better to keep all of your options open and your cards close to your chest. It is purely a business transaction, you supply labour and they in return give you a wage and providing both parties keep to the agreements you have no further obligation to them apart from contractual obligations of notice to share any future personal decisions you might like to/wish to make with them.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

As for why we don't have these - we're told they'll go in our file & we can have them upon leaving the company, but we have to ask for them (when we leave). They'll be doing it like this because they'll not want you go go about looking for jobs armed with your qualifications.

As for anyone taking out a grievance - yes, i did. The result was nothing found. Not enough evidence against this man. I have gone against him since then & told them to call on ANYONE as a witness, because i know everyone will back me up on my accusations. I specifically said "anyone" as i didn't want to name any names, but knew anyone would back me once questioned.
The boss put a stop to it. My theory is because this supervisor is his little lapdog & he doesn't want to give this up, so will protect him at all costs.

As for tell HR, not the boss. That's impossible. Soon as this HR lady is told - the boss will know within 5 minutes of me leaving the office, trust me. The HR lady is also a well known brown noser.

Time to look for something else. Only problem is, it's the wrong climate. Head down whilst i look then.
  • Telling your employer you are thinking of leaving is about as good an idea as telling your girlfriend you are thinking of dumping her.

If you can, discretely film or photograph the lazy git, then put it up on 'Youtube' under the title of 'Joe Bloggs (replace with his name) or company 'x' relaxing t work' (or something similar. With any luck the boss (or some of the customers/delivery drivers etc) will see it and start passing comment.
