Was this attempted fraud?? A bit strange?

Had a phone call from our mortgage company the other day saying that a payment of £30 had been paid to them with my husbands name as the reference but no account number. They were ringing to check that we had made it as we have never made any type of overpayment before. We haven't made it. The bank account that the normal payment is made from is in my name only, not my husbands so it wasn't an attempt to access that account. They are investigating but so far, it's a mystery! Anyone heard of anything like this before?

Chances are its a name mix up and Mr xyz with same surname who didnt quote account number is now wondering why his mortgage hasnt been credited.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

....was our first thought BUT with a very small company (ecology) so chances of someone with first same AND second name being with them seems remote (if not impossible).0
