  • sounds like between you you should have enough money for the holiday?. :)

Surely your dad's girlfriend should be looking after him, if she's living in the house with him?

What's the worst thing that could happen if you say 'no' occasionally? (it does get easier with practice, I promise :))

She does provide the food, but he pays towards it. I don't think he likes asking her.

I don't know. I have always been passive with people. I had an ex who bled me dry for £2000.
  • £120 pm electricity - wow! That's horrendous!

Can you do a car boot sale?

I've sold stuff on Amazon - great way to clear out books and get a little bit of money for them. Not a huge amount but better than nothing!
Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free :)
    Mortgage free since 2014 :)
  • Eon insist I pay it....even if this is from a proper meter reading. Makes me mad as leccy is rarely used.

not being funny but £100 mobile bill (mine + oh contract) is way to high you could save a good bit a month getting cheaper contracts if money is tight every month
If you dont like me remember its mind over matter, I dont mind and you dont matter ;)
  • twelve stops then home, the situation with your dad sounds quite complicated. You need to decide I think, where your responsibilities lie - obviously if you live with your dad then you should be contributing to household expenses or if you owe him money to pay him back but if you are living separately, you have to sort out your own finances first in my opinion. There are other ways of supporting people than just giving money. If you can figure out why you struggle saying 'no' or at least start practising it you can start setting boundaries. I think that will help you. Try practising in your head first, or with your boyfriend (as in role play).

And for this month what would happen if you kept the money you would have given your dad for yourself? So you can live/enjoy your holiday? Remember, you always have a choice (and so does your dad).

    Hi TwelveStopsThenHome

Hope you don't mind if I intrude on your thread but thought I might be able to offer a bit of advice.

Is all the payment we're asking for to cover ongoing electricity usage or is some going towards an outstanding balance on the account. If it's the latter, give us a call and ask if the balance can be spread over a longer period. This will reduce the monthly payments a little.

Not much help now I know but going forward, if the payments are for ongoing usage only, then there may be ways these can be reduced.

Make sure you're on the best tariff for your circumstances. There are better discounts available for managing your account online and paying with a Monthly Direct Debit.

I would also pop your annual usage (details are on your bills) on to one of the comparison sites. This will list all the options open to you, both with us and the other suppliers. Choose the deal that's best for you.

Perhaps there are ways you can cut back on the amount of electricity you're using. We can help with this.

Talk to our Energy Efficiency team. Tell them about the property and the appliances you have. They specialise in helping people reduce their consumption.

Ask for a copy of a booklet called '100 ways to save money by saving energy.' It's free and contains lots of useful tips.

Check out our website, too; particularly the Interactive House and Energy Fit campaign. More good tips here.

Hope this helps, if not now then maybe in the future. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

    Have a good holiday.
