The impression I got from the posts was that the advert was on the McCain website, but I couldn't even find a direct link from the McCain website to the rude video. I found a link from McCain to a youtube page with lots of other videos by lots of different people, but that is a very different situation. However, I still couldn't find the rude video that way. I had to google to find it. I'm not implying people are making things up, but I am thinking that people are mistaken in saying McCain have put something rude on a website that makes out it is family-friendly.

We did view the advert on the mccains website, which is what we said (we didn't have to follow a link to view it, we just clicked onto the next available video). Nobody suggested that mccains had put the advert there (deliberately or otherwise), just that it could be viewed there. It was clearly a mistake (that appears to now have been rectified), but we were still able to view it while on the Mccains website - which some might find shocking... I certainly did when listening to it with my 6 year old in the room!!!

Charlston- whats with all the questions? Are you trying to find the video to watch for your own personal gratification or are you planning to watch it to use as a bargaining tool?! If the latter, tried and tested and came back negative!

Well you might just be in luck!
My OH had an email to say it was free listing Sat 1st and Sun 2nd. I've not had it though, and can't see it on the Ebay site, although may just be looking in the wrong place.

I know ages ago they used to do Free Listings for some sellers and not others, but they haven't done that for yonks - they have just done it for everyone, so hopefully it's just that all the emails haven't been sent out yet or something and we will all get our free listing weekend.

  • As the boards move to Christmas and seem to generate a buying frenzy I will explain what we do.

My dh has a big family. I have an average family. For years in his family we all bought presents for adults. We spent £20 per adult. So say £40 a couple. Sometimes we didn't know a new girlfriend but still bought a gift. Between us we raided Boots and stockpiled suitable gifts. 7 couples each buying 12 gifts. Each year I left the house with stuff that people had spent about £150 on.

Tbh lots of it got recycled or went to the tom bola. It wasnt personal. Buying 12 presents was difficult as well. We then realised that between us we had spent the best part of £2000 on 'stuff' for each other at Christmas.
We stopped and now do a secret Santa. We each spend £15 and get one gift for a named person. It can't be a boots no thought gift set - it has to be something they would really want. So we spend £30 in total and it was at least £250 before.

I think we need to break the cycle of needless gift giving. We were all adults (we still give to children but cap at £10 and pool to buy a bigger gift often). We didn't need the stuff, it wasnt what I would have spent £150 of my own money on for me. It had just become a habit. Everyone said that they relieved by it ending.

I read threads on here about buying something on here as it is cheap and keeping it for 'someone'. Chances are if you are buying generic gifts the receiver won't really want or need them. They will be recycled on.

Lots of threads about recycling gifts. Dont recycle gifts- just break the gift giving habit in the 1st place.

don't worry about it CP. Just usual stuff on YouTube, someone editing a video for their own amusement.

it is still on YouTube, but McCain have gone through all their vids on their site and had a tidy up of what is relevant and what is not :)

and if you read their T&C, as I do with any site, it says they are not liable for what happened, which is fair enough. It was brought to their attention, they fixed it, no harm done.
