Re-mortgage- when to start looking?

Our 4 year fixed mortgage is up Aug 2012 and whilst this is sometime away, we are not sure when to start looking. We currently have a specialist mortgage due a bad history which was completely cleared in 2007.
We were told by the end of this term, providing we don't go into arrears at any point (which we haven't) we should be able to get a more normal rate mortgage
