Perhaps other material than PVC would work?"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
yes you can sew Pvc! its a heavy fabric so get the strongest needles you can find, and its slippy too - I solved that prob by using double sided sticky tape instead of pins inside the seam allowance. go slowly, and use a strong thread too - polyester is better than cotton tbh.0

get a teflon foot too. I'm surprised nobody mentioned one. they're dead cheap on ebay and well worth the few quid. and if you can, go to poundland and buy a bottle of spray on "personal" silicon lubricant. i know, i know, embarrassing to buy but oh so helpful with pvc in a completely innocent and non kinky way. spritz some onto the foot plate and it really helps. you only need a tiny bit too.
also, lowering the foot grips if you can. not all machines allow you to do it. you will need hand eye control, but theres less chance of messing up the plastic surface of the pleather/pvc.0 -
Thanks for these replies showing me that it can be done - with a lot of patience!
She's not moved yet, and it'll be a while before they'll be in new house, she's still planning what she thinks she will need/be helpful for the future, especially when baby 3 arrives!
I'll pass on all the info to her. Thanks again,

I was thinking about this today, and (I always look for the quickest and easiest way to do something) wondered whether there isnt a glue out there which would do the job easier? I know that there is one for fabrics called 'NoSew' and got the impression it works on leather too. I may be wrong, in which case someone will correct me, but if so - then I would imagine it would work on PVC too!0
