dislike new hair cut

I know there is nothing I can do and just having a bit of a moan.

I got my hair cut on friday. To be fair to the haidresser ( i've never been to before). I am a bit wishy washy with what i wanted just that I wanted a fringe. She has done what every hairdresser does with my hair and curt it in such a way that I know I can't deal with it.

Basically I had thick hair just below my shoulders with some layers, it is curly and I get a mushroom effect when straight and a little when the layers get too long, I tend to leave it curly because its is less hassle. She has taken a lot of "weight" out of my hair and I feel like my hair is really thin, when she dried it it looked ok but over the course of the day it got curlier, I was a bit frazzled on sat and it looked plain odd / wild. The problem as well is the musherrom is now above my ears and long straggly layers to my sholders below! ( I am exagertaing a bit) but think of that nurse on holby city with the black hair and thats the effect I have!

I can't get it up in a pony tail any more to hide it! I know it will grow but I feel rubbish now!

  • Aww I totally feel for you, it's so upsetting when this happens. It's very rare I walk out of a hairdressers feeling happy. The only consolation is it will grow. Also, I find it takes a week or so for the hair to settle down. Hopefully in a few days your hair will look better once it's had a chance to recover from cutting.

Know how you feel! I had my hair cut about 2 months ago and I hate it and still hate it now! I was clear in stating "I am trying to grow it" and for some stupid reason wasn't paying attention when it was being cut (I was reading a magazine). It was touching my shoulder..it was when she started on the clippers that I stopped reading!

Had two hairdressers attempt to fix it (little they could to tbh) and both commented on the bizarre (I prefer "stupid") decision to shape it the way it was done! Its now too short to get anything back any other way then with a hairband and just looks so ugly! 2 months on (infact nearly 3!) its still just as bad as it was when it was first done. 3rd attempt at trying to better it in 2 weeks time. May have been a free cut in the first place (and no I did not tip) but some things are not even worth free.

    Clips are my best suggestion...

A hat, headscarf, clips etc or best of all clip in hair extensions, I cant picture your hair but if the front is ok you could also try the 3/4 wigs like Lauren Pope wears in TOWIE, no need to suffer bad hair these days - best of luck:)
Thank you for this site Martin

  • Thanks, managed to get most of it in a claw clip today. I've been to claires and got some clips to hold the top back into a half pony. In a good moment I think rock chick, in a bad moment I'm peeved!
  • I had my haircut 3 months ago. And the hairdresser was the BEST ever. I have always come out crying but this guy was fantastic he did exactly what i wanted and didn't finish it the way hairdressers do dead straight (ihave dead straight hair and like some movement and mess) he really was incredible

THE ONLY thing i can say is i had the same problem as he thinned my hair a bit too much. it felt like half a head of hair and felt 'scraggly' and limp as you say
i can assure you this thin-ness goes away in about 4-5 weeks. starts feeling full again. so it will whiz buy. Until then get some cute pins and push the fringe to side and have fun with it. i have seen ppl with some crazy hair but coz of the way they carry themselves it looks stylish not a mess.

    Hope this helps
  • its only hair- it will grow- and quicker than you think.
