I booked my wedding today!

Hi everyone!

Im new to this part of the site but just wanted to share that we booked our wedding today! We got engaged a month ago and booked the church and reception venue today. We having 70 ish day guests and then about 30 in the evening so will be about 100 ish.:j

I'm very excited but daunted as we are on quite a tight budget. My parents are being very generous and helping which will cover the reception so we just need to pay for everything else
:rotfl:

I'm planning on making the flowers myself and we will be getting favours from eBay probably, I'll be buying bridesmaids dresses etc from the high street and hiring the men's suits.

I'd be really grateful if anyone can suggest any sites that are cheap for invites, order of service or tips on how to save money etc.:)

Thanks and happy wedding planning! Xxx

  • Congratulations and welcome to the board!

Have a read through some of the other threads, especially the stickies, and it's a good idea to join the thread for your month as well.

    Good luck with the planning!

  • Vistaprint are pretty good for invites and order of service. They send you loads of offers as well which will help
  • One of the best ways to keeps costs down is to call in favours from family and friends. Most people will be flattered and delighted to be asked so if your Aunt bakes amazing cakes or your cousin is a professional make up artist then talk to them before booking anyone. Going one further and asking if anyone knows someone could get you mates' rates too.

  • Thanks everyone, I forgot to say it's not for a while yet Saturday 10th august 2013.

I'm going to speak to my next door neighbour about the cake and she would do it cheap or possibly as a present. My friends dad is a wedding photographer and we are meeting him next week to view his photos and to talk prices - makes me very uncomfortable talking money :o
And we possibly have a family member who is a graphic designer who could do the invites and stationary but it would be a lot of work.
I'm worried about asking for too many favour or help and it seem like were taking the pis*

My parents said they are willing to help write stationary and pack wedding favours etc and my maid of honour and bridesmaid said they will help me too. I'm probably worrying about nothing :)

We made our own invites. We bought premium card in the sale £1.99 sainsbury's a 4 size(then cut in half and had a5 invites. Used a free pdf design online found it by googling. Downloaded a new font for free online and made these

Just added a few stick on diamant! which were about £2. I think we probably did it all in for about a tenner.

Get someone to double check before you buy or confirm your choice as we did forget something vital like the date we were getting married pml.

I very much doubt anyone would think you were taking the pis* by asking for too much help. I've heard of weddings where everything was provided or made by a relative or friend of the couple, and IMHO it makes for a much more personal wedding. If you pay for materials or accept their help in lieu of a wedding present then you will be fine.

With our wedding, almost everything except photography, food and evening entertainment - wedding dress, MoH dress, decorations, flowers, favours, stationery, and possibly transport - is being done by us or family and friends. I may even end up getting a talented friend to do the photography, depending on whether we can find a pro within our small budget! Even if we had a large budget, I wouldn't have it any other way.
