Her address won't be down as 'bad credit'. Luckily, the debt will follow her ex wherever he has popped off to.
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.

My cousin in law's boyfriend applied for credit and somehow the debt is at her mums house in his name. I know when you apply for credit they check your details on the electoral register, but whats to stop someone getting a loan where they live and phoning up and informing company that they have moved address, they don't ask for proof of this do they???
And yes the lady in the avatar is me

in general yes they do. which is why if you're not on the electoral roll you are usually refused credit unless you can provide other proof...utility bill, driving license etc.

I moved recently and both my current accounts wrote to me in my new address and asked me to confirm by telephone that I got the correspondence. Also my two loans both required change of address in writing.

Hope this helps - it's not as easy to just say you've moved ;)

She needs to check her credit files to make sure there are no joint credit agreements. Although addresses aren't flagged as "being in debt" any more, you can be financially linked by entering into a joint application for any type of "credit".
  • The debt is not against her address. This article explains it properly
