Unable to change NRAM Mortgage DD date

Options
Hi Lovelies

I've just started a new job and my salary date has changed from being the 20th of the month to the 7th of the following month. We have always had our DD set to the 1st of the month and I called NRAM to change to DD date to the 8th to ensure everything runs smoothly and have bee told they don't have the facility to change the date. I'm gobsmacked that on such a long term and important payment they don't have this facility, has anyone else had an issue with this, is there any alternative?

  • You are effectively going half a month late, which they will not like. If it is a cashflow problem for you, then there is no real way forward. If it is mainly convenience and you can put an extra months payment together, then I think they may be more agreeable to moving the payment date earlier.

The originator has to pay the banks to access different dates in the month. The more dates it has available, the more expensive it is. NRAM is on run down and needs to be as cheap as possible. So, cutting out dates would be an obvious money saving thing to do.

  • The take all dd's on the 1st of the month, generally if you pay via standing order they will allow you to pay on any day of the month. Maybe worth asking abit this option

The actual reason is if its NRAM, its the last working day of the month, if its Northern Rock you can choose the 1st of the month. This may change soon early next year you may get a choice.

It comes down to different systems and the way they are set up.
  • I tried to do this also when my pay date changed from 31st to 24th every month and the answer was a big fat no. Pay the money into a different account and move the mortgage payments to come from the other account. That way you won't notice.

  • You should be receiving some correspondence soon about changes to the way payments are made but you can read this too.

  • Hi NRAM has recently installed new systems, and have added the facility to change the DD collection date so if you haven't already, give them a call.

You can also pay via Standing Order, Transfer, Cheque, or over the phone with your card. As long as you pay each months payment by the end of the month.
