I am half way through my bankruptcy and have a nil tax code, but don't earn enough to pay tax, so the Nil tax code IPA is pointless. I am about to give up work to care for my disabled mother and will only receive carers allowance. because my only income will be benefits I should not get an IPA but will they issue me with one at a nil value just incase circumstances change and thefor be screwed for three years?

hi....and welcome.
The N[il] T[ax] IPA is operated differently to a surplus-based IPA...
I take it you do not pay anything to Moonbeever, for the NT IPA?
The NT IPA lasts only until the end of the tax year...or until the NT code is changed [upon changing employer, for example]....whichever is soonest.
Once tax code changes, the NT IPA ceases.
The 3-year thing only applies if a surplus-based IPA has been agreed. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0
