Bankruptcy finished but OR asking for car.

My bankruptcy finished on 2/09/2011 and the wife on 5/09/2011.

Ive just had a call from the Official receiver asking was i working..and if not then they would be taking my car away, ive politely asked if he knew my bankruptcy had finished (appreciate they are busy and notes not always read properly) too which he said yes he did but as the car was an asset pre bankruptcy its still an asset post bankruptcy.

He did say if i wanted too buy it i could..just as he did last November 2010 when i told him i was looking for work and this is the first ive heard since.

He has given me a figure too pay if i wish too keep the car (About 1/5th of value).

I assume he is well with in his rights too do the above..?

I explained my wife has just started a job so uses the car for that, but as im the "Registered" keeper (Note registered and legal owners is not the same) he says it makes no difference.

I dont intend too kick up a fuss..just more interested if people have experienced this previously.

Did you ever receive an exemption letter relating to the car?

No i didn't..just assumed as its been 10 months since it was mentioned and bankruptcy had finished a bit odd them now asking, ive spoken too them about other matters and it wasn't ever mentioned.

Its not a huge issue as the car has very little value just more curious as why they suddenly either want it or want a % too keep it.

They do routine audits of files, and I'm guessing that an audit picked up that they hadn't dealt with the car.

Yes good point..well i believe that's the last dealings i"ll have apart from the house but that's another couple of years yet.
  • How much would you have to pay?
  • and just because they ask for a % START LOW!

they usually use parkers as a guide so take the poor condition as a valuation

  • Only been asked too pay 20% of the value so about £100..was £500 last November.

Did tell him its a high mileage banger so he suggested £100..was going too call next week and offerd £50 and try and limit it too £75.

Yes piddly amount but its still enough.
