Co-op Cashminder

Hi, just thought i'd let you know (apologies if someone already has) that i've just opened a second cashminder and it has come with a Visa Debit card not the Visa Electron i got with my first Cashminder in April!!

:j:j:j

The info leaflet says this is a replacement for their current Electron cards!

Now i'm hoping this means i can pay online with M&S which has been my only problem with the Electron. I know others have had problems at petrol pumps, so looks like Co-op are responding and i for one am a huge fan, their helpfulness and friendliness getting through my banking BR muddle has been a joy :A

If your new card still starts with 4508, then you won't be able to use it on the M&S (and Debenhams too I think?) site I'm afraid as for some reason, on their system it still flags the card as an Electron.

God knows why, I've had this with them for ages and it's so annoying!

  • Thanks Shellsuit, when i queried it with M&S they said Electron's were available to children, under 18s or under 16s i guess, and they didn't accept the card on-line as the child could be buying knives etc. So fair enough.
I did get round it by using the M&S phone ordering service and getting the school uniform delivered to their store, then paid with the Electron when i collected it, and saved the postage charge - so no real problem! Thankfully Boden don't sell knives, so they are only too happy to accept it!!

Co-op seem to have an odd policy at present......I used to have Electron cards...so come re-newal, I asked specifically for Visa debit cards....as Co-op seemed content to renew like with like.

The impression I got was that they sent out either Visa debit or Electron cards, with no logic.

The number on my Visa Debit card was identical to that on the Electron it replaced

what has changed, is that the Visa card is impression-printed [numbers embossed], the Electron card had simple flat printed numbers.

I cannot justify M&S prices for myself...so that particular issue doesn't arise..

  • My lodger has one of the Co-Op Cashminder Visa debit cards also which replaces his old Electron and he can't use his new card to buy train tickets at the kiosk, ticket machines or on board so he has to pay in cash.

I've got a Co-Op Visa Debit that starts 4508 and have used it at the ticket office and machines with no trouble at all. Not had to try on board yet though.

  • That reminds me, there was that thread the other day about not being able to buy tickets at the machine somewhere "oop norf" but I was able to pick up a pre-booked ticket at the machine with my card in S!!!!horpe.

Don't think anyone answered though when I mentioned I thought the ticket machines were universal and not installed by the train providers.
