Mortgage for non uk taxpayer

I was wondering if anyone could help me as I am trying to get a mortgage with my partner who is a German national but works offshore and doesn't pay tax. No one seems to want to give us a mortgage even though he earns good money! We are getting married soon and he is thinking about becoming a uk resident if this would help us at all? Does anyone know of a bank who will lend to us if he doesn't pay tax here.(without us having to find a ridiculous deposit!) I don't work so it's just his salary as I have had a baby.

Where is he registered to vote? What currency is he paid in? Is his salary paid into a UK bank account? How long has he held a UK bank account? What information do the CRA's (Equifax, Experian etc) hold on him?
I don't think not being a UK national will matter (my Swedish friend got a UK mortgage) nor will how much (or little) tax they pay will either as another friend got a mortgage with her dad (UK national) who lives in Russia and does not pay any UK tax on his earnings.0 -
Hi,
Yes, I don't think it's so much of a matter of nationality but more like the length of his credit history here in the UK.
Both myself and my husband are of non-UK, but EU nationals, have never had problems with mortgages, credit cards, etc as we have had a stable UK employment and credit history.
Now, for the past 6 years I have worked for an international organisation paying my taxes directly to EU instead of UK, and that would have been a problem if hadn't been for my husbands standard stuff.
Just tried enquiring about a remortage for my BTL loan (on my name only), not borrowing any extra and the Building Society turned me down on the phone when I mentioned not being a UK tax payer...0 -
Thanks for the replies. He is paid in euros, doesn't vote anywhere, nor does he pay tax anywhere. It's very difficult to get a credit history going as he has also been turned down for a credit card! he did get a mobile phone last week though and was accepted after that credit check..... ? He banks with lloyds offshore, but they will only give a 70% mortgage...0

How is not paying tax anywhere possible ? There must be Monaco based MSE Forum members who can advise.

70% of what?
Appears its not a matter of obtaining a mortgage but the amount you can borrow. A different issue.0 -
I did one just like this recently where one partner was offshore and a non UK citizen. A decent broker should be able to help.0
