Warning - stupid question Re: Ipod Touch/Classic

This is an incredibly stupid question but what's the difference between an Ipod Classic and Ipod Touch? Is the Ipod touch a phone too?

I was thinking of getting OH an Ipod Classic for Christmas purely for listening to music. But does the Ipod Touch do this too as well as other things?

I've had an Ipod Shuffle and currently have an Ipod Nano. I know the Ipod Classic pretty much does what the Shuffle and Nano do but seem to have lost the plot when it comes to what to what an Ipod Touch does :o.

Thanks in advance from a stupid Bird...

No such thing as a stupid question.

The itouch is much more versatile than a classic or nano. You can't use it as a phone but it has all the other facilities. You can play music and videos obviously but you can also use it via your wifi for emails and facebook. The itouch can also be used for apps so i'm often to be found whiling away the odd spare moment playing Angry Birds etc.

I guess it depends what you want to use it for. I personally don't see the need to be spending so much money a month on an iphone but I love my itouch and would be lost without it.

Hope that helps in some way.

    Thank you kindly.

So, Ipod Classic = music and videos and Ipod Touch = music, videos, Facebook, emails and apps.

So you get more for your money with the Ipod Touch? I love the look of the Ipod Classic but is there any point in buying if the Ipod Touch offers so much more? Price-wise, I don't think there's a lot of difference.

I'm also assuming that the Ipod Touch fits into docking stations like the Ipod Shuffle/Nano/Classic does?

    Sorry for so many questions.

  • The touch is like an iphone without the phone bit really. Although you can get the Skype app for the ipod touch and call people via Skype if you are connected to the wifi.

The ipod touch will fit into ipod docks - docks should all come with adaptors to fit the different ipod dimensions.

Which ipod you shoud get depends on how much music you have. The classic is 160GB whereas the biggest touch is only 64GB. I have both the classic and 32GB touch. I use the touch as a mini tablet - web browsing, apps, watching videos etc. I do have some music on there but not that much. I have the classic as I am a music nut and need the large capacity to fit everything on. The classic is a bit more expensive than the 8GB touch but cheaper than the 32 or 64 GB ones.

    Thanks people.

OH already has a (work) Blackberry and laptop so wouldn't use anything else for emails. He doesn't see the point of Facebook so wouldn't use it for that either. As for any apps, if he'd been that interested, he would've mentioned it by now!

Think Ipod Classic is the way to go for him. It's mainly for when he travels to and from work anyway.

At least I know what an Ipod Touch does now!

    Cheers for your input.

  • I've been using ipod classic too for travels, if that's also your purpose then I suggest you use it, because it is less expensive than ipod touch. it is mainly for music and videos and other games only.

I have an average amount of music (it fills 9GB apparently). I don't use my ipod (touch) for the internet as although there is a wifi option, its so rare I find anywhere and then remember all the log in details when I get there! Plus wifi eats battery.

I do have a few apps though, things like the Kindle and other random waiting-for-bus games like soduko and whatever. Theres also options to download bigger and better things (which are of interest to me) such as health and physio type data and no doubt other things.

If your hubby is a music fiend and has more then the average person, I'd go with the classic, but if he has other hobbies or interests (other then music) I'd go with the touch as you can quite simply do more. Blackberry has apps but the ipod has way more and many of the apps can do more on the ipod touch then on the blackberry. Not all apps require the internet to be used.
