veritas 8 help, with little or no info

Hi,
I have just had a power cut and the internal alarm on the veritas 8 system sounded, this has never happened before when the power has been off, and it would not reset even though I put in the correct code.
After a while I got so sick of it, (and it was driving the dog mental:o)
so I just punched in random numbers for the fun of it, hence I must have hit the numbers that set off the panic alarm, and it then changed the pitch and alarm even louder inside and also externally as well... Oh my
Anyway, a little time later it all went silent!!!! and it stayed that way, the power came back on about 30 minutes later and it did not alarm again at that point.
Can someone tell me if there is a battery back up or something somewhere as there was a light on the reset box all the time and the sensors were all displaying a red light, I dont know much about this alarm as we inherited it with the house, and paperwork is a scrap of paper with a few pointers on from the last owner.
Also how could I silence it, if the above happens again, or silence altogether while I get it either serviced?? or updated.
Any advice would be gratefully received, and any extra info would be fab, as I have not a clue!!!
Ooh and does the alarm time its self out at some point, now I'm curious x

thankyou all xxxx Maddy red xx:D

  • I used to have a Veritas 8 in a house I owned about 5 years ago - seemed like a very good system but I had a local alarm company maintain it. I think there's a battery in the main unit and it is possibly this that needs replacing. There's probably anti-tampers on the casing though so you'll need the manual if you're planning on fixing it yourself.

I think the Veritas 8 is made by a company called Texecom and apparently all the manuals and guides are available from their website...

Except I just get a blank page when I try going there. The same information might be mirrored elsewhere though. Good luck.

Which Veritas 8 is it? I have the C (=compact ) model. Does the mains led flash when the mains is ON? There is a back up battery in the unit and there may be one in your external box. In my external box there are jumpers to set the alarm time (max 20mins). You should have a user and installation manual. You need the engineer code to remove the lid uness you hook the spring underneath something and reset the alarm normally as it will go off. Mine doesn't go off on mains failure (unlike a lot of other alarms that haven't had their battery replaced) and as you say yours didn't used to. Did it continually beep or a certain number of them and how long did the external again go on for (approx) ?
