I've tried many brands! (this is the good side of knowing someone with good contacts!) I really rate the salon brands over high street brands, but they are expensive. I'd say if you can save up, do so as its worth it but try sites like FeelUnique, HQhair, LookFantastic and etc who tend to offer 10-20% off various products.

Kerastase Masquintense is great, use it once a week, second ot third week you really see the difference. There are two different types, make sure you get the type suitable for your hair (fine or thick, generally darker hair and skin is suitable for the thicker version, too much can really weigh down your hair too much).

Phillip Kingsley Elasticizer Extreme (I have fine hair yet didn't see much difference with the normal version, maybe my hair was too bad!) Again, use once a week and wait about 2-3 weeks before you really see the difference.

If your hair is damaged by lightening products, sun or heat (so breaks off mid strand) then maybe try Aphogee 2-step protein (they have various lines and this is the one to go for) Its generally found in Ethnic hair shops and is a fair price. It stinks and isn't so easy to use (you wash and clean hair, apply the liquid and leave to dry/blow dry with as little movement to your hair as possible as it becomes very fragile). Once dry, rinse off and use the deep conditioning mix and leave in for 2-3 mins, rinse and your good to go. Again, you don't see the real difference before 2-3 uses but with this one you really don't want to use it more then once every 8-12 weeks as it can make your hair brittle. Nothing else works like it or as effectivly but again, its a hassel to use! If your noticing the smell still in your hair the next few washes, its normal, it will eventually go away but yes, it is a side effect!

If your stuck with just the high street, you could try either Aussie or John Freida's deep conditioning products but I found I had to use them every other day to get anywhere near the same results as high street lines.

Phillip Kingsley Elasticizer has been my saviour (very long, frequently dyed/bleached hair, lots of heat treatment), but it is quite expensive. Absolutely the best I've ever used though.

Yes would second this, its about £24. Its the one the beauty editors all recommend and I have used it for years now.
  • I use this http://www.aubreyorganicsuk.co.uk/product/50576/honeysuckle-rose-moisturising-conditioner/

I have very curly hair and it has been a saviour!

Does it work for any type of hair? How much does it cost?
My hair is also coloured (too many white ones otherwise!), and always frizzy... :(

My hair is very coarse and frizzy and breaks off when I get highlights. I tended to keep it quite short as it was such high maintenancy to have longer due to the amount of conditioning treatments required.

A few years ago I had a keratin treatment in my salon and it has literally been lifechanging. I now have normal hair. It is half way down my back, full head of highlights and no frizz or breakage. It costs anything from £100-£500 in salons depending on the length of your hair but if you are handy with the straighteners or have a friend who can help you out you can buy a single use kit for around £20 off ebay.

There are loads of threads on here about the treatment but it is definitely worth looking into.

In the meantime aphogee products are also quite good. I don't use the complicated treatment jenniewb described but they do a 2 minute protein reconstructer that is around £8 a bottle on ebay that works well.
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!
  • It's a 10 from Sally is without a doubt the best I have ever used and my hair is in the best condition ever as a result

There is a whole range, but I tend to stick with the leave in conditioner - its a Gods send and does exactly what it says it will. Used the mask too and its great but I only need the leave in now

The other thing i forgot to reconmend is Henna Treatment Wax.

I whack it on dry hair; leave for hours and then shampoo and condition and have lovely soft hair.

I normally buy it from 99p store or Savers for a large tub; and although i apply very liberally i still get four good treatments.

BTW although its called Henna it isn't coloured and can be used on all hair shades.

Just googled and this is it - but i never pay that much.

I use the new Dove deep conditioner and it really is good and fairly inexpensive
  • I had really dry, knotty hair full of split ends for ages after using too much hair dye and blow drying it everyday. After wasting money on many many different products I can honestly say the only thing that worked for me was cutting all the damaged hair off. After cutting it off my hair grew back healthier and fuller.

To keep your hair healthier in the future start with your diet. If you are deficient in any vitamins it can affect your hair, especially if you are iron deficient. Try introducing more vegetables and fruit to your diet and taking vitamin supplements. You can buy hair skin and nail supplements, but they tend to cost a little more. Even taking a standard multi-vitamin should help.

My favourite deep conditioners are the body shop rainforest one and boots coconut & almond intensive hair mask. The boots one is really cheap and not too thick so you can afford to use it a few times a week without weighing the hair down too much.

I've recently started using the v05 miracle concentrate and it is amazing. You rub a few drops on the end of your hair before blow drying and it makes your hair super soft and easier to brush. I would definitely recommend this.
  • I find the aussie 3 minute miracles are great...i had damaged hair a while ago (bleach disaster!) and they were better than the tigi stuff i had which was more expensive!! buy the bottles rather than the sachets, don't think you get enough in there!! i used the one for coloured hair which rinses out really well, but they have a reconstructor one too, and possibly one for long hair but can't remember! theey are 2 for £5.99 in superdurg, or in the 3 for 2 at boots at the mo!
