Posh tea party for 10 year old girls.....

I'm organising my niece's birthday party and though it would be a good idea to have a posh tea party theme.

Does anyone have idea ideas as to food and drink. There will be about 10 girls and I don't want to go overboard:

I was thinking
Schloer drink
tea
french fancies sprinkled with edible glitter
scones, clotted cream and jam
cucumber sandwiches
salmon sandwiches

I would do a selection of sandwiches with the crusts cut off and in triangles and fingers...egg, cheese...possibly I would suggest tuna rather than salmon...as salmon can be a little rich in taste..and mixed with mayo will go a lot further and cheaper too...sorry can you tell I dont like salmon..sorry..

Cake is the way to go...and probably small and bitsize...so some small choc eclairs or merangues would be good too..

If you have a tiered cake stand to display it all on that will add to the theme too...or check in your local charity shop for the glass cake stands..they are usually very cheap...

Dont forget to get some pretty china plates and frilly doillies...

I love the idea of the fizz ...you could serve it in champagne glasses too...i think they do different colours of schloer..pink would be fab..

  • I would say do a selection of sandwiches too as they might not all be keen on Salmon/cucumber. Definitely cut them into little triangles and display them on one of those fancy stands.

    Sounds a great idea!

    Thanks ladies,

I do have a cake stand which I got last year from Wilkinsons for £6 and I don't get to opportunity to use it very often.

Chanie, there has to be something chocolate, :D

Some little fairy cake or muffins perhaps. :D Posh paper napkins? Will the table be decorated? I have had many tea parties for grown-up little girls and I love making the table look nice
 Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the ground each morning the devil says, "OH CARP, SHE'S UP"!

  • We did this for our daughter last year, we had a selection of sandwiches, home made mini scones with cream and jam, chocolate brownies and some mini strawberry tarts. Then we had hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows.

Instead of a goodie bag we gave them a tea cup filled with sweets.

They all had a great time and it is something different to the usual party.

Hope you all have fun :D
  • I would look out for cheap plastic "champagne" glasses now all the stores are selling off their picnic/summer stock.

All the supermarkets now do pretty cardboard cake stands but there are plenty of DIY examples like this one from (MSE'er) flyingpigs blog Old%20Crock%20Recycled%20Cake%20Stand%204_thumb%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

edited to add that I missed that you already had a cake stand, but will leave post to help others!
  • and I saw shloer is on special in Sainsburys today (possibly bogof)
