If you are working, it won't affect you really - you won't get an NI deduction because you already have 30 years.It only really helps people who are short of the full amount.Trying to keep it simple...

Still no bill passed so it's still wait and see time unless you have a deadline for a past year approaching. If that applies the cautious thing to do would be to pay only that soon to expire optional year, knowing that you might be throwing the money away if the plans do take effect, as seems very likely. You won't get a refund if you pay and it turns out not to be necessary.0
