Your best bargains

Does anyone know where I can get cheap dark wood curtain polls? I tried looking in Dunelm and Home bargains but too much around £10 upwards, looking for something around £5? Might need to go back to freecycle!

Also going to try to stock up a bit if budget allows recommendations please on the following:

I want to stock up on a few basics

Loo rolls - I usually buy A's SP 6 rolls for £1.60 (400 sheets) where's the cheapest?
Washng powder - cheapest reasonable quality that doesn't bleach out colours - I found A's own bleaches colour (I used the sensitve as skin itches otherwise).
Softner - again cheapest and best? I like comfort better than Lenor as seems to go further.
Washing up Liquid - best I have found at homebargains Fairy prof £1.39 1ltr last ages - other thoughts?
I also need to get some reasonable fleeces, want to pay around £5 each - went to charity shop and got one £4 brand new - it was an M & S!
Cheapest frozen veg/fruit?

Aldi doing cheap thermal hats 69p my best bargain to date!

Thanks everyone.

  • best toilet roll by far is 'nicky' brand found in farmfoods and home bargains. 9 rolls for £2, my mother was an andrex lover, however after trying it then going back to andrex she realised how much thicker and better it is! they also do kitchen towels in packs of 3 for £1.

    What about primark for fleeces?

Depending on how big the window is, could you buy a wooden broom handle and stain it.
Then just buy a few brass hooks that would be hidden by the curtains.

Sounds Clampetty but it would work.

Matalan have cheap fleeces and if you are a member of quidco they have a code at the moment for 20% off and 5% cashback. I think the code is quid20, but check

Loo rolls - I usually buy A's SP 6 rolls for £1.60 (400 sheets) where's the cheapest? I usually buy Tesco Springforce at just under £2 for nine or Lidl's Floralys at around £1.70 for 10 - and prefer the Lidl ones.
Washng powder - cheapest reasonable quality that doesn't bleach out colours - I found A's own bleaches colour (I used the sensitve as skin itches otherwise). Lidl's own brand has been highly recommended by lots of people, also I quite like Tesco own brand Lavender 2 in 1 washing liquid but atm am stuck buying Daz and Lenor cos anything else brings boyfriend out in a rash *tuts*
Softner - again cheapest and best? I like comfort better than Lenor as seems to go further. Look out in Poundland for a brand called Katie Elizabeth, smells gorgeous and goes a long way - or stick with your current one but halve the amount, you probably won't notice. And bulk buy when offers are on
Washing up Liquid - best I have found at homebargains Fairy prof £1.39 1ltr last ages - other thoughts? Aldi magnum concentrated has been tested as being better/longer lasting than Fairy.
I also need to get some reasonable fleeces, want to pay around £5 each - went to charity shop and got one £4 brand new - it was an M & S! Primark?
Cheapest frozen veg/fruit? Farmfoods is where I buy my frozen veggies, £1 a bag and usually at least 3 or 4 on offer as bogofs etc. Mixed peppers are especially handy!

  • Just wanted to post a quick thank you to everyone for your responses. I will definately check everything out and see what works best. Some great ideas, it's good to know what works well, otherwise it's trial and error. I appreciate you sharing your experience.
  • 415SanFran - I've just tried the first link and it goes to a cheerios link, I don't think that is right??

Not sure what you wanted to direct me to, if you get chance can you let me know?

What do you think of the washing powder, any good? Any prob's - I guess not if you are still using it.

    Thanks
  • Yes that was for cheerio's I just thought that was a fantastic price with no delivery charge, even if that is not exctlay what you were asking for.

The washing powder I find to be fine, that said I have no skin problems exema or the like, that said my niece uses it with three small children and says that she is going to buy it again, so obviously OK for sensitive skins or bad stains from baby foods and the like.
