Hello
I currently have a very poor credit rating, i am on a debt management plan with Payplan. I am looking at renting a property, do you know if a poor credit rating will affect this if i was to apply via a major estate / letting agent ?
I have default notices but NO ccj's, could anybody advise please, or if there is a way round this ?

In a word, yes (usually). Letting agencies do checks against prospective tenants.
If you fail, there is another way - you can usually pay double bond, or get a guarantor against your rent (like a friend or relative that would pay it should you not be able to).0 -
Private landlords rarely credit check because of the cost involved.. (or so I've been told..) so you may be better off going private than through a letting agency.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Try https://www.gumtree.com for a private rent, my son found one easily this way, no credit checks just proof of income and 2 personal refs.0

it all debends on the agent. I used to work in a bank and we used to get requests asking for info on people for things such as bad debt etc.
not all agents do this so see how it goes0
