Organic Eggs 69p for 6 at Sainsburys (possibly)

Not sure if this is a glitch or not but twice this week i have bought a 6 pack of Sainsburys Basics Eggs for 69p, and when i looked at the numbers printed on them they begin with 0 which is for organic. It says Barn Eggs on the box.
Both the boxes were a slighly different colour than the others on the shelf, which seem to start with the number 2 for Barn Eggs.
Errrr...come back later ;)

  • Thanks for that tip - I often get given eggs by a friend but if I buy them I always get the Basics eggs so I will have a look see.

  • I find it's often pot luck, as the codes seem to change all the time but your right that you can often pick up Organic or Free Range eggs for 69p in Sainsburys. Bargain!
  • On the subject of eggs - I was given a tray of eggs by my friend - she got them at a farm near where she works. They are jumbo eggs and are stamped with a 1 which I think is free range. However they are really "strong" tasting and the yolks are a really really dark orange colour and the white is really watery. Does anyone know if this means they are off or anything?. Tey do taste weird to me. I think I will go back to the Sainsburys Basics as they are always nice!

no it means they are free range. as the bird has more choice in what it eats you get varied egg colours, the eggs could have been old but not likely to be off you would know if it was.
have you any idea of the cost of producing eggs at 60 pence they are not going to be british or if they are they are reaching there bbd. we used to produce eggs for alocal shop selling them at £1.20 we were making a serious loss per 1/2 dozen
  • Sainsburys are by far and away the best for 'value' eggs, as they are the only supermarket that does not use battery caged hens. I realise barn eggs are not the answer, but at least it's better - and as mentioned you can often pick up code 0 or 1 basics eggs.

I find the best idea is to go to Lidi, as they normally do 6x free rangers for 85p.
  • I noticed online they had Basics range Barn Eggs, 69p for 6 this morning.

  • When I shopped in Sainsbury's I always bought the Basics eggs. I always managed to find Free Range eggs in the box and once, Organic. I check Tesco's eggs and have never seen this happen there.

    It's only a game
