Having been long term unemployed due to one reason or another. I was over the moon when i was employed last October as a temp. I loved the job and was told from several managers. don't make commitments for other jobs where keeping you. we'll get you a contract drawn up in January 2011
I was gob smacked on Christmas eve to be given my p45. I was even on the rota till the middle of January!
I was told it just a temporary glitch and would be called in a week. They dint, I since applied 29 times for the same store. Rejection time varies from 1 day to a month.
Mid July I was becoming frustrated and called up ask asked them outright, is their and issue? after 4 calls i was told you failed the on-line assessment. Despite passing it back in October 2010, I have never had a chance to redo the test, their fore making no sense.
I have applied many times since and received a rejection email almost immediately. to quick for my liking,
To mix things up and bit I applied for a store 15 miles and was shocked to get and message on my landline , asking me to call asap regarding a vacancy . This was only the day after the app was submitted.
I have tried to return to call everyday since last thursday. I was told every time Someone would call back, yesterday and today I'm told shes busy.
Talking with friends and family, Some of which are employees that cant understand my string of bad luck either
Is it worth keep applying or their something sinister going on?
I never missed a day, infact due to the weather last year I often offered to start earlier and cover shift. Two manager's actually went and challenged the decision to let me go, to no avail.
Whats the deal?
I aplying for many many other jobs but would love to go back with somehting Im familair with, did they just fill me up with what i wanted to hear? Has anyone experinced something similar
End rant

I would move on now, supermarkets are a law onto themselves regarding employment.
I once went for a supermarket job in one department, had the interview etc and when arrived for induction it was actually for a department I wouldn't have applied to work in. The managers / supervisors just shrugged their shoulders when asked about the "mix up".0 -
Once you have applied for 1 asda and been rejected you cant apply for anymore for 6 months(says this in the email yu get) well you can but you dont get to do the assessment, you cant even sign up with a new email address as it must recognise your dob or name etc as ive tried it but wasnt successful. Just move on OP, i would have given up after second rejection.0

Sounds like you were taken on as a Christmas temp and they didnt want to admit it,incase you looked for and found a job elsewhere at their busiest time of year.0 -

I have been told the same thing by some people , but dont see any reference in the emails howeverThank you for your interest in joining the team at Asda. We have experienced a high volume of applications for this role and we have now closed the role, and we are sorry to say that we are unable to process your application any further on this occasion. This does not affect your application to any other vacancies with Asda.
We really appreciate your enthusiasm and that you've taken the time and trouble to send us your details. We wish you luck in your job search, and please keep checking our website for future vacancies.
Yours sincerely,
As i said I did the assement is october 2010 and got the job, I never re-done the assement since. However if I was somehow blocked, I cant see why another store phoned me????
To add to the confusion that store a few miles away called again today and asked me to come along for an magic/interview on the 1st of october :rotfl: she said your in, just need to get the nonsense out of the way....
a simple life?:mad:0 -
Congrats on getting another job:j
I work for an Asda and it is not uncommon for managers/supervisors to not call you back. When they leave messages on my voicemail about extra shifts I can never get hold of them when I try to ring them back.
I agree about different departments/hours etc. I applied this time last year as a xmas temp for George and got offered nights as most of the other applicants were under 18 and not eligible for nights. I turned it down.
Applied in May this year to another store got 8 hours on checkouts exactly what I wanted to fit in with my studies and kidsOPs so far £42,139
Original end date Nov 2037 (53) Current end date June 2024 (40) Aiming for 5 years to be Mf
DD1 Oct 2008:), DD2 Jul 2010:), DD3 Aug 2013:)
When life is getting me down I try to remember to thank God for the blessings0 -
The D/W applied LAST year (Sept/Oct) and has continually been reminded by Asda, she can not reapply for 6 month's
even though the 6 month's is well up
have tried emailing, get no reply
have tried phoning Asda (HR in Leeds) still awaiting a call back0 -
Can I be brutally honest, even if it perhaps isn't appreciated?
The online tests test accuracy, numeracy and basic written skills. The job market out there means that there are many very overqualified people looking for a job, and they can afford to be picky. Your written skills (based on what I see read of them) might benefit from some practice. Even if you are the best person for the job and can do it standing upside down, if you cannot pass the online test, you cannot get the job.0 -

No that is true and I respect that. Theirs no doubt I could improve my typing skills for sure. I cant' see that its comes across on multiple choice tests and tick box type applications though.0
