I use Nailtiques and have for a few years. My nails were really badly bitten for most of my life and the last few years I've broken the habit. The Nailtiques has made them incredible. They're bendy rather than brittle and I never really break nails since I started using it as they just bend rather than snap! Also leaves them looking really nice and shiny and natural. Can't recommend it enough! I also think even though it costs alot, its worth it. It lasts ages.
Many thanks to everyone who posts competitions and works so hard to provide all the answers!

  • Moneylover, I've responded to your PM. Apologies for not responding earlier.....not been online for a few days :-)
  • I realise this is way after your original post, but just wanted to add a review of Flexinail!!
    Firstly a bit of background:
I have been using acrylics for the last 6 months - looked amazing but was really concerned about the damage to my nails. Tried Bio-sculpture, which incidentally is great, but at £85 a go in Harvey Nicks, not exactly a long term solution!!
So decided to go cold turkey and use Flexinail!! When my acrylics were taken off my nails were paper thin - probably thinner actually!! They looked disgusting as all broke really low down, and any regrowth broke instantly too!!
Flexinail website looked fab though I was a typical British cynic!! But oh how I've been proved wrong!!
The first couple of weeks, no amazing difference, but their website says that will be the case, so no surprise there!! After month one however I started to see a marked improvement - ok, not quite carrot chopping proportions (check out their video if you don't know what I'm talking about!!), but definitely could manage a bit of cress or a pea shoot!!
Month 2 saw even greater improvement - strong but flexible as they promote!!
I'm now approx 10 weeks in - and have used polish for the first time - and a friend thought I'd given in and gone back to the acrylics!!! I can still see where the filing down took place from the acrylics so know I haven't yet seen the full benefit that Flexinail can offer - but I am hooked!!
Yes, its pricey (£45ish in pounds sterling), but I received 4 vials and am not even halfway through the second yet, having applied it twice daily. The only other disadvantage I'd say is that it doesn't penetrate nail varnish apparently so the likes of Gellish & Shellac are not options - home varnishing it is!!
But in terms of strong beautiful nails, this really does work!! Prior to acrylics my thumb nails used to break really low down and (a) look awful, but (b) hurt!! Since using Flexinail this hasn't happened!!
I am not a regular reviewer for anything, so I hope this lengthy account gives an idea of how good I think this stuff is!! Buy some today!!!

Nailtiques came highly recommended, it doesnt damage nails as some of the strengtheners do but after several months its made no difference whatsover. I think I have now tried everything on standard UK market
So, will give Flexinail a go, thank you, I will have a look for some other reviews first but £45 is cheap compared with having to have acrylic nails. I think you get your money back if it doesnt work although that might be a bit of a palaver from the UK
I inherit my nails from my mum, she had terrible nails too till she was 97 and then she went in a care home and they were lovely after that, her pride and joy!!
Thanks again for long post on Flexinail, did it make your nails dry at first and then this wears off?
  • Your problem mirrors mine exactly. I had to remove my acrylics as required for a general anaethetic and my nails just keep breaking way down low. I too came upon Flexinail while surfing for a nail product and I was wondering if Flexinail was still available as some companies' websites are still there after the company no longer trades. Now I've read your experience and noted the date, i.e. this year, I'll part with my money and give Flexinail a try. Many thanks.

Have you checked your diet as well? Are you eating enough protein? When I went low carb again and checked how much I should be having I found I wasn't eating anywhere near enough. That was in March and in the last month or so I've really noticed the difference in my nails. (Fewer problems with split hairs as well.)

Binkiboo, will you post if you get Flexinail? If the company that makes it has gone is there any point as stock will just run out? OP of Flexinail - are you still using? I imagine if you stop its back to the same old broken nails..
Breaking nails are normally just genetic and diet is not at fault - the problem I find with anything that 'appears' to work is that the nail, when it breaks, breaks low down due to inflexibility - any treatment that leaves the nail flexible doesnt make enough of a difference - you just think you are getting there and all nails start breaking

Do people find that shellac strengthens nails or do they continue to break.

Bio sculpture is expensive so wont be going that route...

To users of gel or acrilic nails - is one better than other? Also, has anyone used them really long term eg years? If so whathappens - does the level of damage just stay about the same?

    Thanks everyone
    Hilary
