Having bought a SL endowment on a Halifax mortgage at a similar time to you, you may find that if you complain to Standard Life, they may take the view that they will accept liability for miss-selling, even if the paperwork is long gone.

If they accept liability, they will then do a calculation on whether you are financially worse or better off than if you had taken a straight repayment mortgage. Given that you cashed in the endowment policy early, the comparison is only valid for the years you had both. I suspect that, given the higher interest rates that were around then, you will find that the endowment mortgage was cheaper and you won't be entitled to any compensation.

To be clear, the comparison is designed to put you in the position you would have been had you taken out a repayment mortgage rather than an endowment. It is not designed to clear your mortgage. This is the same for everyone.

That you had financial problems and cashed in early without making other provisions, can not be blamed on anyone.

  • Seems the OP is posting numerous threads on the same subject ... (thanks to Duns for the heads up)

That is not as I read it a duplicate thread. It is actually the OP not knowing how to use the forum and replying with a new thread.

I responded quite happily to the thread - until Duns. pointed out that they had already posted the same question (twice it appears - first one being 2 yrs ago as highlighted by Trolls. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/24467067#Comment_24467067). and had already recd assistance on it.

Having looked at the time line and content - it does appear that they have inadventely posted a new thread, and then posted the same info here ...

As they say ... don't shoot the messenger ... !!
