How do I answer salary question on job application and how do I work out pro rata?

I'm applying online for a call centre customer relations executive job with a phone company. I have experience with this type of job. The form has a question about what salary I am looking for. I would be happy with £7 per hour but obviously don't want to limit it to that if they were planning to pay more! They are advertising the job as paying £15,500 per annum pro rata, if I got the job I would be working 25 hours a week. Do I just work out what I would be paid based on this and put that? And how do I work out what I would be paid based on the pro rata pay? Thanks in advance for your help :T

  • easy way for pro-rata without any effort in your case would probably be...
    12.5 + 12.5 + 12.5 = 37.5. So your 25 hours will be 2/3's of the salary.

Until you know the whole time equivalent hours, you can't.
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.

work it out on 40 hrs per week paid, this is probably the likely scenario, certainly likely to be worse case for these kind of roles.

Why not just put £15,500 pro rata or £16,000 pro rata if you want more. Let them work it out.

    £15,500 in hours:

15,500 divided by 52 (weeks), divided by 40 (hours) = £7.45 per hour.

    £15,500 pro rata:

    15,500 divided by 40 (hours) multiplied by 25 (hours) = £9687.50

On that basis I'd ask for £7.80 per hour. Push your luck. ;)

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

I agree with ohreally, ring the company up and ask them what the full time hours are. If it's only 35 hours a week then the hourly rate becomes £8.51, at the moment it's all guesswork.
