Hi
Need advice to help an elderely gentlemen. Any advice welcome.
A neighbour of mine is 70 odd year old & retired. He is claiming pension credit & his state pension. His partner died about 10 years ago. He recentely travelled abroad & got married to someone about 60 years old.
The question is, is his new partner entitled to any of his pension even though she is a non uk national, never been to the uk. Does my neighbour have to report to the pension service that he has got married. Also would she be entitled to his pension should my neighbour die.

not sure about State Pension as it is different to Pension Credit - but yes he does have to tell them he got married, whether he can claim Pension Credit as a couple will depend on whether she is in this country and if she has recourse to public funds. If she does not have recourse to public funds then he cannot claim as a couple and must maintain a single claim.
State Pension is not a public fund as it is contributory, but "I" think from past experience if she is in this country then she can claim the 60% of his basic and she would inheirt a % on his death like any other married couple. don't think it would happen if she still lived abroad.0 -
