Just have to say re beans..

There has probably already been a thread on this but I'll tell you all anyway.

I am trying to get our weekly shopping bill down to around £30 per week (we are a couple working full time) this includes beakfasts, our dinners to work and tea's. I have been buying lots of value things as always, but must say I tried morrisons value beans for the first time tonight and they were the best I've ever had. I've tried other value beans and they seem to be full of water and sugar, these are lovely!

Hope you all try and maybe convert if you haven't already!

  • I really like Aldi's baked beans. I know what you mean about value beans normally being quite watery and yuck. I don't know why I've never bought beans from Aldi before, but I've been buying them the last few weeks and they're very good. The sauce is quite thick and tasty and the beans just seem a nicer texture, you often get the hard skin on value ones but not on these. Think they're 28p.
  • I love the aldi beans.

We tried Aldi beans ~ didn't like them at all.

Only branston or Heinz for us when they're on offer and we can stock up.

I agree, tried the Morrisons beans last week and pleasantly surprised. Not keen on Heinz, some of the others are OK eg Cross & Blackwell, and usually buy the Tesco reduced salt/sugar in bulk when on offer but these seem a bit watery lately. Don't have an Aldi too close to try but might make a trip to try them too!

I only buy Branston Beans on offer. If I ever do run out, there is always a chain (normally Morrisons) that has some offer on - B2G2F, half price 4 pack, 3 cans for £1 etc.

Asda's own beans (not value, just Asda brand), low salt/sugar, have been 99p for 4 cans for a few weeks. They're fine.

Agree with some of the posters here with regrads to some of the offers supermarkets have, Branston Beans and Hienz are nearly always on offer.

You could always try searching HotUKDeals from time to time as people post their offer finds on there.

And try searching mySupermarket as well (no need to sign in). mySupermarket includes the top four supermarkets, Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's & Waitrose/Ocado. Click on any of the images to compare prices in other stores.

You could also try searching Mad About Bargains as well.
  • I like Oak Lane Beans (Tesco) they're the same price as value, only they taste like Heinz did before they started messing about with the recipe 10 years ago... absolutly fabulous :)
