Can anyone tell me on average how many months of not paying do mortgage companies give you before they repossess? My ex lives in a jointly mortgaged property (he was supposed to be buying me out - Hmm)
and I've just discovered that he is £4500 in arrears on the mortgage. I have seen a solicitor to force him to sell but all this takes time and I'm afraid the lender will repossess before the house is sold.
Any advice welcome.

How long is a piece of string, its expected now that a mortgage company has to carry out everything possible before taking action as it needs to be a last resort. Could be minimum of 6 mths could be 2 years. It really depends on lender and what your ex is telling the lender. I take it your the other named party on the mortgage, have you spoken to the mortgage company, and if so what have they told you?0

I would love to speak to the mortgage company but despite numerous requests from myself and one from my solicitor, ex will not give me their details. I did not take any with me when I left in 2009 as I believed (naively) that I could trust him. The mortgage was with GMac i think but I believe it is now owned by another company. I,m not sure. He wont let me view inside the property and is dragging his heels in getting valuations etc. Its hopeless.0

Can you not phone GMAC yourself and ask them, you don't need your ex to give you the number. Try 0844 770 8030 that's for Paratus AMC who deal with their mortgages, it they have sold the mortgage then they can put you in the right direction.0
