What's odd is there appears to be no company or VAT number on this website.

I've tried a few searches on whois.net, companieshouse.gov.uk and alexa.com and there appears to be no data on either of these sites.

There are a few companies registered with the name Simple Solutions but appear to have absolutely nothing to do with the above.

I've also checked those companies which are registered under the name of Simple Solutions and neither appear to tally with simplesolutions.me.uk.

It also must be pointed out that any reputable firm should appear on the Companies House website, the UK Governments official companies register, as far as I can see there isn't any that corresponds with simplesolutions.me.uk.

Regardless of how pleasant and friendly a chap Mr Tuffin might be, that doesn't legitimise this company. And also, anyone can give out a written receipt after you've paid cash, they are after all easily obtained.

Perhaps I'm missing something here but as there is no information that corresponds on the Companies House website, or any other for that matter, then I'd be wary.

You might find the following interesting:

Thought I'd email Companies House as curiosity got the better of me. They say they are unable to find any trace of a company by this name on their register in the last 20 years.

The company may be using a trading name, in which case its company name should be displayed wherever it carries on business and shown on its stationery and invoices.

However, it is also important to make sure that you are searching for a type of business that needs to be registered. Companies House only registers private and public limited companies, limited liability partnerships, and certain other corporate types. There is no central registry for unincorporated businesses, such as sole traders or partnerships.
  • I think you are confusing the terms company and business. Many businesses are not corporate bodies and so are not required to register with Company House, so searching the Company House site is a dead end, and of course you will not find any company number on a web site or documentation.
With regard to VAT, there is no requirement in the VAT Act for registered persons to put their VAT number on a web site. In fact there is no requirement for them to put a VAT number on an invoice, unless you ask for a ‘VAT invoice’, and you only need one of those if you are registered for VAT and have purchased an item for business purposes.

And finally! Before I saw this thread I ordered an item from this business, it was posted within two working days, arrived well packed and in perfect condition.
