help pls - can't find thread on moving timeline

Sorry for being a numpty guys - I know there's several threads around but obviously can't hit on correct search words.

Looking for the "things to do" at various dates before move thread - at what point you inform who and do what, etc.

Many thanks - and maybe it could be considered for a sticky at the top?

That's a very wide question. What stage of the process have you reached? Are you asking about solicitor / paperwork stuff or just the things you need to organise yourself to do?

    Are you buying or renting?

    If buying, try google.

    Or here.

thanks guys - I think there's been more than one thread on it - you at 6 weeks before completion inform a, b and c, at 4 weeks before inform x, y and z.

People were adding everything they could think of the list of people to be informed - things like microchip people etc.

I just can't hit on the right combination of search terms to find it/them.

And I'm selling, to storage, then buying.

I wouldn't be notifying anyone until I'd exchanged!

Seconded Hazyjo. Unless you have exchange, the sale isn't real and it might all still fall through. You can however start the ball rolling by warning various people. I had two daughters to move school so I was loading between the two county offices well in advance to secure school places for them. You usually need to give utilities time to take final readings and calculate exit bills, but I would ensure my known readings were taken as well. You'll need to inform the council so they can get their pound of flesh, but they usually pro-rata the final payment. You'll need a moving company and you'll have to allow time for booking that and getting quotes. I was getting the quotes in a week before exchange so I could book a slot the day after we knew exactly what date was moving day. Other than that, who did you imagine you would need to inform? Most of this can be done in the week or two between exchange and complete.

Yup - not jumping the gun just yet! It's the long long list of everything that people thought of who WOULD have to be informed - banks, doctor, vet, phone etc - I'm just being paranoid about forgetting something important and at least if I have the list, I can tick them off as and when. And yes, I have remembered to get the mail redirect forms in readiness but won't be doing it until exchanged.

    thanks
