Am I entitled to a full refund for spoiled food (faulty fridge/freezer)

Sorry If this is the wrong section, I wasnt sure where the right place was.
I bought a fridge freezer from Currys (yesterday) that I've discovered this morning is faulty (my foods all spoiled).
They have offered to replace the fridge freezer, but currys said I have to write to Daewoo about the compensation for spoiled food.
Is this right? (they said they would 'consider' my complaint)
Is it Daewoo or currys that I have a contract with?
Also am I entitled to full compensation for the food, or is this not there responsibility? thanks

This is a foreseeable consequential loss and given the age of the device the onus is on the retailer to be responsible so they should be approached to put things right.
You may need receipts for the food you claim.0 -
did you check the temperature was suitable before putting the food in?
i had a new fridge freezer last month and instructions said to let it stand for 4 hours before switching on the leave empty for 8 hours before putting food inHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0 -
Thanks to you both. I do have reciepts for the food, so will enclose that with letter.
No I didnt check the temperature, but as the fridge/freezer doesn't have a thermometer, and I didnt have one I couldnt really.
I read the instruction leaflet twice looking for standing time, but nothing was mentioned at all, I even googled it, and downloaded the full manual for the item, but still no mention of standing time. (I was quite shocked to be honest)
I ended up leaving it for a few hours anyway, to be on the safe side.
It said switch on an leave for 2-3hrs before adding food, it was on full for a minimum of 6hrs.
I've spoken to currys, there going to email or call me by friday to arrange a replacement. I'm not sure if I should just get a refund and buy another one, probably be alot quicker!£100 - £10,0000 -
Usually you need to leave the freezer on for at least 12 hours (i.e. overnight) before putting in food. Did you check that the freezer was frozen to the touch inside? 2-3 hours is nowhere near enough and it freezing time is usually 24 hours per 8kg of food.
When you return the product they will do a test to ensure that it is faulty. If it is proven to be then you should write in a letter of complaint to say that the product did not perform it's task and you should be entitled to compensation. On the other hand, did you sign any paperwork which would limit liability (i.e. small print?).0 -
I just thought I'd update incase it helps anyone else. I emailed currys (whatever happens I think its called) and explained the problem, detailing what it states in the instruction booklet and complaining about the spoiled food.
I didnt get a reply, so that evening I rang and spoke to someone. I explained again, she was happy that the fridge/freezer is faulty and arranged a replacement to be sent out.
She said I need to contact Daewoo about the spoilt food, and gave me an address to send the receipt. Which I did.
Just got an email now from Currys, apologising and offering me £127 for the food, apparently this is a standard amount they offer, no receipt was needed. I have just accepted the offer and am very happy. (Well I will be if tomorrows freezer actually works!)£100 - £10,0000
